Senior Legal Counsel
The Filipino Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, Inc. (FILSCAP) is the Philippines' collective management organization dedicated to protecting the rights of composers, lyricists, and music publishers. We license the public use of music, safeguard intellectual property rights, and ensure the fair collection and distribution of royalties to music creators.
We are looking for an accomplished legal professional to join our Legal Department as Senior Legal Counsel.
Reporting directly to the General Counsel, the Senior Legal Counsel will lead complex legal matters involving litigation, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, labor law, and intellectual property enforcement. This is a leadership role for a seasoned lawyer who is passionate about protecting creators' rights while providing strategic legal guidance to the organization.
Key Responsibilities
As Senior Legal Counsel, you will:
- Lead and manage civil, criminal, administrative, and other legal proceedings involving the Society, particularly matters relating to copyright enforcement, infringement, licensing, and collection.
- Develop litigation strategies and oversee the Society's legal portfolio to ensure effective case management and successful outcomes.
- Coordinate and supervise external legal counsel, collection agencies, and other legal service providers.
- Monitor pending cases and legal accounts, prepare management reports, and provide strategic legal recommendations.
- Establish and continuously improve legal policies, procedures, documentation standards, and litigation protocols.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop Legal Counsels and other members of the Legal Department.
- Conduct administrative investigations and provide legal advice on labor and employment matters.
- Handle corporate housekeeping functions, including the preparation and review of Board resolutions, minutes, corporate records, and regulatory filings.
- Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on contracts, licensing agreements, commercial transactions, and legal instruments.
- Ensure organizational compliance with applicable laws, regulatory requirements, governance standards, and industry best practices.
- Serve as a trusted legal adviser to the Board of Trustees, Management, Committees, and internal stakeholders.
- Represent FILSCAP before government agencies, courts, industry organizations, local and international collective management organizations, and other stakeholders.
- Support legislative, regulatory, and policy initiatives by preparing legal opinions, position papers, and participating in public consultations and hearings that advance the interests of Filipino music creators.
Qualifications
We're looking for someone who has:
- Membership in good standing with the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).
- At least eight (8) years of post-qualification legal experience in a reputable law firm, corporation, or organization.
- Extensive experience in litigation, dispute resolution, and case management.
- Strong knowledge of Philippine procedural and remedial laws.
- Demonstrated success in litigation, negotiation, and legal advocacy.
- Experience in labor and employment law is an advantage.
- Experience in intellectual property, copyright, media, entertainment, or related industries is preferred but not required.
- A Juris Doctor or Bachelor of Laws degree from a reputable law school with an excellent academic background.
- Exceptional analytical thinking, legal writing, negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong leadership capabilities with the ability to mentor legal professionals and manage complex legal matters.
