Safety officer

Job Description

1. Promotes occupational health and safety within the organization and develops safer and healthier ways of working
2. Inspects all machineries and equipment, such as lifting devices, machine guards and scaffolding, to make sure they meet safety regulations
3. Works with Engineers, Security Guards and other professionals to ensure the safety of worksites
4. Ensures that personal protective equipment, such as dust masks, safety glasses, footwear and safety helmets, is being used in workplaces according to regulations
5. Ensures that dangerous materials are properly handled and stored.
6. Ensures all chemicals stored in the facility are handled properly and in accordance to their corresponding MSDS.
7. Identifies and test work areas for potential accident and health hazards, such as toxic fumes and explosive gas-air mixtures, and implement appropriate control measures
8. Ensures that the organization is aware of, and complies with, all legislation relating to its workplace activities and the use of its plant, equipment and substances
9. Supervises and collaborates with company’s Nurse on the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend remedial action.
10. Conducts training sessions for management, supervisors and workers on health and safety practices and legislation.
11. Assists with the rehabilitation of workers after accidents or injuries and make sure they experience a satisfactory return to work.
12. Coordinates emergency procedures, rescues, firefighting and first aid crews
13. Communicates frequently with management to report on the status of the occupational health and safety program
14. Develops and executes occupational health and safety systems, including policies, procedures and manuals.
15. Develops and implements the company environmental and SWMP and ensures it is working and maintained.
16. Responds to any emergency and supervises the Fire Team/ERT to carry out evacuation of people from the building in most safe and orderly manner.
17. Prepares and maintains H&S inspection and trainings records and other important H&S reports.

• With at least 1 year work related experience in a Manufacturing Industry, preferably in a Fashion Bag Industry
• Must be DOLE accredited H&S Practitioner - SAFETY OFFICER 3 (SO3) or Pollution Control Officer 3
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
• With knowledge and strong understanding of Philippine Labor Code particularly on Health & Safety standards and other applicable federal and state requirements.
• With supervisory skills, ability to direct and supervise effectively with good judgment
• Proficient in English communication on both oral and written; (can speak/understand Chinese Mandarin/Cantonese is a plus factor)
• With Positive attitude, strong leadership and good interpersonal skills; Ability to multi task, can work under pressure and willing to work on extended hours
