A Caregiver for a Special Child is responsible for providing compassionate, attentive, and specialized care to children with physical, developmental, behavioral, or intellectual disabilities. The caregiver ensures the child’s daily needs are met, provides emotional support, assists with therapy or educational activities, and works closely with parents, teachers, and healthcare providers to ensure the child’s well-being and development.This role requires patience, sensitivity, and a solid understanding of the unique needs of children with disabilities.
Qualifications/Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the child with daily activities such as feeding, bathing, toileting, dressing, and mobility.
- Administer medications or therapies as prescribed or instructed by parents/health professionals.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and nurturing environment.
- Support the child’s learning and therapy activities, including speech, occupational, or physical exercises.
- Help with homework, basic education, or activities tailored to the child’s abilities.
- Observe and report developmental progress or behavioral changes.
- Provide emotional comfort, social interaction, and encouragement.
- Apply positive reinforcement and consistent routines.
- Use communication strategies suitable for children with limited verbal abilities or sensory sensitivities.
- Coordinate with parents, therapists, teachers, or doctors regarding the child’s care.
- Maintain logs or reports about the child’s condition, activities, and incidents.
- Attend therapy sessions or medical appointments if requested by the family.
Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Training or certification in Caregiving NC II (TESDA), Special Education (SPED), or Basic Life Support (BLS) is highly preferred.
- At least 1–2 years of experience caring for children with special needs is an advantage.
- Experience with conditions such as autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, ADHD, or developmental delays is valuable.
Requirements:
- Genuine compassion, patience, and empathy for special needs children.
- Physical and emotional stamina.
- Ability to follow structured routines and therapy schedules.
- Willingness to work closely with the child’s family and medical professionals.
- Basic knowledge of safety protocols, hygiene standards, and emergency response.
- Must be trustworthy, discreet, and respectful of family privacy.
- Willing to work flexible hours or stay-in, depending on employer needs.
- Background check and medical clearance may be required.
