The Seafreight Department operates as a functional unit that focuses on ensuring operational efficiency,

fulfillment of the services and satisfying customers’ requirements and expectation. The role of the Seafreight

Manager is multifaceted and requires a combination of strategic thinking, practical skills and leadership

qualities to ensure a smooth and efficient functioning of the department. The Manager reports directly to

the General Manager and should work harmoniously with the different Department Managers and Strategic

Heads.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 A.  Functional Responsibilities

Operations - the function encompass the core activities needed to run the department efficiently and effectively. The function includes planning, organizing, leading and controlling, which are all interconnected to achieve the department goals.

These involves the following :

  1. Planning - this involves setting up of goals, developing strategies and outlining the steps needed to achieve the department targets. The Manager is expected to use planning tools to forecast future needs, allocate resources and establish deadlines.
  2. Organizing – focuses on structuring resources : people, equipment, materials to support the department plans and objectives. The manager is responsible for organizing workflows, assigning tasks and ensuring efficient use of resources.
  3. Leading - this involves motivating and guiding employees to work towards common goals. The Manager is expected to provide direction, communicate effectively and foster a positive work environment to maximize productivity.
  4. Controlling – this function ensures that operations is running as planned and that performances meet established standards. The Manager monitor progress, analyze data, identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions.
  5. Process Optimization - The Manager is expected to constantly seek ways to improve efficiency and effectiveness in workflows and processes.
  6. Risk Management - The Manager is expected to identify potential risks and to develop strategies to mitigate them.
  7. Communication and Collaboration – The Manager is expected to communicate articulately and effectively and with various stakeholders such as customers, suppliers, top management and employees.

 B.  Financial - ensures that department hit its financial targets. This includes budget planning / forecasting, managing billings and receivables and overseeing financial control and reporting. The Manager is expected to maximized shareholder’s value and ensure the efficient use of company resources.

Minimum Requirements

Education
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Business, Customs Administration Graduate, Supply Chain, Transportation Management, Operations Management, Accounting, Finance, IT/Comp Science or any other 4-year related courses. Customs Licensed is an advantage
Specific Knowledge
  • Must have at least 4-5 years of professional experience as an Operations Head in the freight forwarding industry.
  • Preferably a Licensed Customs Broker
  • Have Knowledge on Logistics, Customs Administration, Supply Chain or Transportation Management.
Skills

Business Understanding
