Job Summary
The Head of Legal provides strategic legal leadership to support the organization’s business objectives while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and corporate governance standards. This role oversees legal operations, manages legal risks, provides expert counsel to senior leadership, and ensures the organization’s interests are protected across all business activities.
Key Responsibilities
Legal Strategy & Advisory- Serves as the primary legal advisor to senior leadership on all legal and regulatory matters
- Provides strategic legal guidance aligned with business objectives and organizational priorities
- Advises on legal implications of business decisions, partnerships, and expansion initiatives
- Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and corporate governance requirements
- Oversees the development, implementation, and monitoring of internal legal policies and controls
- Keeps leadership informed of regulatory developments that may impact the business
- Reviews, drafts, negotiates, and approves contracts, agreements, and legal documentation
- Ensures all contractual arrangements protect organizational interests and minimize legal exposure
- Oversees contract governance processes and legal documentation standards
- Identifies legal risks and develops mitigation strategies
- Provides legal support in managing disputes, investigations, and regulatory matters
- Oversees litigation management and coordination with external legal counsel when necessary
- Partners closely with business leaders, HR, finance, and operations teams on legal matters
- Supports strategic initiatives including mergers, acquisitions, restructuring, and transformation projects
- Acts as a trusted advisor in navigating complex legal and commercial decisions
- Leads and develops the legal function to ensure effective delivery of legal services
- Establishes legal frameworks, processes, and best practices
- Drives continuous improvement within the legal department
- Bachelor’s degree in Law; Juris Doctor preferred
- Must be a licensed lawyer in good standing
- Extensive experience in corporate legal practice, preferably in financial institutions, shared services, or related industries
- Proven leadership experience managing legal teams or legal functions
- Strong knowledge of corporate law, labor law, regulatory compliance, and risk management
- Experience in contract negotiation, dispute resolution, and corporate governance
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management capability
