Job Description:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the accounting operations for a portfolio of client entities within the firm’s Client Accounting Services (CAS) practice. This role manages the month-end close process, reviews accounting work performed by junior staff, prepares financial statements, and ensures the accuracy and integrity of client financial records.
The ideal candidate has strong technical accounting skills, experience working in outsourced accounting or public accounting environments, and the ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities:
Client Accounting Management- Manage the accounting operations for multiple client entities across various industries.
- Ensure accurate maintenance of general ledger accounts and financial records.
- Oversee accounting activities performed by Accountants and Bookkeepers.
- Review accounting work to ensure accuracy and compliance with internal standards.
- Lead monthly and quarterly close processes for assigned client accounts.
- Review and approve journal entries, accruals, and adjusting entries.
- Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies in financial records.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, including:
- Balance Sheet
- Profit & Loss
- Cash Flow Reports
- Analyze financial results and identify unusual variances or trends.
- Provide clear financial information to internal teams and clients.
- Serve as a primary accounting contact for assigned clients.
- Communicate with clients regarding financial results, accounting questions, and missing documentation.
- Assist with onboarding new clients and reviewing historical financial data.
- Lead accounting clean-up and historical reconciliation projects when required.
- Identify inefficiencies in accounting processes and recommend improvements.
- Assist with implementation of accounting systems and automation tools.
- Support external accountants with tax preparation and audit requests.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies.
Qualifications and requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- 4-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in:
- outsourced accounting services
- public accounting
- accounting services firms
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience managing multiple client entities or multiple sets of books.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with cloud accounting systems (QuickBooks Online, Xero, NetSuite, etc.).
- CPA license or CPA candidate.
- Experience in Client Accounting Services (CAS) practices.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior accounting staff.
- Familiarity with integrated accounting tools and financial automation systems.
