Job/Position Title: MOBILE EQUIPMENT SUPERINTENDENT
 A.  GENERAL FUNCTION

The Mobile Equipment Section Superintendent is responsible for the overall availability, reliability, safety, and cost-effective operation and maintenance of MMT’s mobile equipment fleet—primarily forklifts and other heavy equipment—to support uninterrupted terminal operations in compliance with safety, regulatory, and quality standards.

 B.  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Equipment operations and support
  • Ensure high availability and operational readiness of forklifts and heavy mobile equipment to meet terminal operational requirements.
  • Coordinate with Operations, Yard Planning, and Dispatch to align equipment deployment with operational demand.
  • Provide leadership and technical direction during critical equipment breakdowns affecting terminal productivity.
  • Approve equipment return to service following major repairs, incidents, or overhauls.
  • Support contingency and emergency response planning related to mobile equipment.
  1. Maintenance Management
  • Plan, implement, and monitor preventive and corrective maintenance programs in accordance with OEM recommendations and operating conditions.
  • Ensure proper execution and quality of maintenance activities, including inspections, repairs, and overhauls.
  • Review maintenance performance, recurring defects, and failure trends; lead root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of maintenance activities, equipment history, and work orders in the CMMS or maintenance system (SAP).
  • Oversee commissioning, decommissioning, and modification of mobile equipment.
  1. Safety, Health, and Regulatory Compliance
  • Enforce compliance with MMT safety policies, Occupational Safety and Health Standards, and equipment safety requirements.
  • Ensure mobile equipment complies with all regulatory inspection, certification, and compliance standards.
  • Lead or support investigations of equipment related accidents, incidents, and near misses, and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Enforce proper lockout/tagout (LOTO), lifting operations, and workshop safety practices.
  • Promote a strong safety culture through toolbox meetings, safety audits, and active leadership presence.
  1. People Leadership and Development
  • Lead, supervise, and develop MES personnel, including supervisors, technicians, and support staff.
  • Ensure personnel are properly trained, licensed, and certified to perform assigned tasks.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy.
  • Manage manpower planning, shift coverage, and leave scheduling to support 24/7 terminal operations.
  • Support competency development and succession planning within the MES team.
  1. Budget, Cost, and Resource Management
  • Prepare and manage the annual maintenance and operating budget for the mobile equipment fleet.
  • Monitor maintenance costs, spare parts usage, and contractor expenses to ensure cost control.
  • Manage spare parts inventory to ensure availability of critical components while minimizing excess stock.
  • Evaluate equipment life cycle costs and recommend repair, overhaul, or replacement decisions.
  • Review and manage service contracts, third party repairs, and equipment rentals.
  1. Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), including:
  • Equipment availability and utilization
  • Preventive maintenance compliance
  • Breakdown frequency and repair times
  • Maintenance cost per operating hour
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance reliability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Support implementation of best practices in maintenance and asset management.
  1. Reporting and Coordination
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, safety incidents, and cost status.
  • Provide technical assessments and recommendations to the Engineering Head and Management.
  • Coordinate with internal departments (Operations, Safety, Procurement, Finance) and external stakeholders (OEMs, contractors, inspectors).
  • Participate in audits, management reviews, and engineering planning activities.

Qualifications/Requirements
 C.  MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  1. Educational Attainment: Must possess at least a Bachelor’s/College Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Eligibility: Registered Mechanical Engineer and BOSH.
  3. Work Experience: At least 3–5 years in a supervisory or leadership role, preferably as:
  • Maintenance Supervisor
  • Senior Engineer
  • Section Head / Superintendent / Manager
  1. Training/Certification:
  • OEM training or certifications (Toyota, Hyster, Kalmar, CAT, etc.)
  • Experience in: Port, terminal, logistics, or industrial operations
  • Continuous improvement or reliability programs
  • Familiarity with ISO, 5S, or asset management systems, Occupational Safety and Health Standards.

Demonstrated ability to:

  • Lead, coach, and discipline supervisors and technical staff.
  • Plan and allocate manpower across shifts.
  • Coordinate effectively with Operations, Safety, Procurement, and Finance

Capable of:

  • Decision-making under operational pressure
  • Managing multiple priorities in a 24/7 terminal environment
  1. Planning and Organizational Skills

Competent in:

  • Maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Budget preparation and cost control
  • Spare parts and inventory management

Able to prepare:

  • Technical reports, performance summaries, and management recommendations
  1. Communication Skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (English and Filipino)

Able to:

  • Present technical issues clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Prepare reports, equipment evaluations, and incident summaries.
