Arcadis are excited to again be growing their water team. We are looking for enthusiastic design engineer professionals to join our team to work on a range of building structures related projects with a focus on sustainability and resilience.
Working within our Design & Engineering teams, you'll create some of the world’s most iconic and ground-breaking structures and spaces that transform the world around us, from making journeys easier to opening public places that bring people together.

In this role you are:
- To lead, manage, and design medium sized projects and satisfy its requirements
- To support the more senior engineers in their design of complex elements/structures and be somehow independent in those tasks requiring minimal supervision only
- To take on a key role within the sector/discipline, providing leadership, technical advice and leading by example, where appropriate.
Role accountabilities:
TECHNICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Apply technical engineering techniques and methods using international design standards such as UK, US, EU or other international and local Structural Design Codes.
- Be accountable to design tasks and drawing checks/detailing that are in line with their level/experience (8-10 years’ design experience)
- Working collaboratively/proactively with the team members in Arcadis GECs, other disciplines, other Arcadis regions and Arcadis clients to deliver coordinated projects to our clients.
- Undertake structural analysis and design works within a specified timeframe/budget and with company quality standards and meeting or exceeding client expectations.
- Should be familiar with advanced to complex features of engineering/drafting software and advanced design code requirements
- Should be able to model from scratch medium to large structures and set-up analysis/design input/parameters ensuring the design is correct and code compliant
- Should be able to set-up a time estimate and programme for a small/medium project considering the scope, resources, fee, workflow/critical path of tasks, etc.
- Works towards the continuous improvement of self by improving knowledge and skills related to structural engineering
- Ensure design resources are working collaboratively, effectively and efficiently by leading/constantly improving the design workflow/processes.
- Conduct internal review and quality checks of engineering drawings and design calculations to ensure compliance with the project's requirements and correctness of project deliverables.
- Liaise with other disciplines within the Project Team for coordination and ensure all requirements are understood.
- Prepare and register all relevant documentation and design reports and ensure all documentation is accurate and in compliance with the Arcadis requirements.
- Liaise with the Function Leaders and Design Manager to keep informed of all developments or changes associated with the project.
- Deliver technically complete design documentation, summary reports and technical reports for Design Managers.
- Develop industry knowledge of international design standards through internal technical training, certifications and continuing education.
- Ensure that there is no glaring fundamental flaw in the design
COMMERCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to estimate man-hour/budget requirements for a scope/project
- Ability to lead/manage/direct/troubleshoot a project if in case there are commercial issues
- Ensure compliance with scope of works, time schedule and cost control.
- Ensure team is not only full utilised but time spent on a project is proportional to the output.
PEOPLE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team on a project ensuring their relationships, morale, career development are taken into consideration
- Build rapport with team members and colleagues
- Conduct training and guidance to team members.
- Monitor the performance of junior team members identifying and ensuring resolution of any issues.
- Build rapport with lead office/regional counterparts resulting in trust and repeat projects for the team
- Familiar with the company policies and its implementation
OTHERS:
- Can be assigned to a Task Management role.
- Become familiar and compliant with Health and Safety regulations and guidelines.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or Arcadis.
- Promote and participate in the digital initiatives of the team.
- Automate design process and workflows.
- Prepare a development plan with your line manager during the Professional Development Review and Grow, Perform, Succeed processes and take ownership of achieving the goals identified within this plan.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
- Licensed Registered Civil Engineer
- 8 to 10 years minimum relevant post-graduate experience.
- Experience working in a design consultancy firm is must
- Expert in one or more of the following design and analysis software such as ETABS, SAFE, PROKON, TEDDS, STAAD, RISA, RAM Connection, etc
- Familiar in the complex US Design Code requirements of ACI, ASCE, AISC, etc and the theories and concepts behind the requirements
- Excellent problem solving and mathematical skills applied in structural engineering based on years’ experience and background
- Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and is fluent in written and spoken English
- Ability to lead, with good influencing, motivating and delegating skills.
- Highly proficient in structural engineering design fundamentals
- Should be able to perform more complex RC and steel detailing requirements
- Can analyse and design more complex elements such transfer structures, pilecaps, mat foundations, seismic systems, corbels, etc
- Actively continue to develop personally and technical knowledge and new emerging technology through regular CPD training.
