PROJECT MANAGER

Role Purpose

The Project Manager will be responsible for ensuring the effective planning, execution, and completion of projects, in collaboration with various stakeholders. This role requires strong leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and a commitment to achieving organizational goals while adhering to SSHJM values and standards.

Responsibilities

Programme development, management and implementation
  • Oversee all aspects of project implementation, ensuring achievement of intended results.
  • Supporting Management, Department Heads, and Technical Staff to ensure projects are designed, implemented, monitored and evaluated in line with SSHJM policies, incorporating a results-based management approach.
  • Ensuring a strong monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEL) function in support of projects.
  • Enabling an organisational culture that supports effective learning, sharing and continual improvement of programme quality.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of the needs, challenges and priorities of participants ensuring current and future projects are implemented to best respond to these needs.
  • Lead periodic project review processes to ensure projects are managed according to results-based management.
  • Responsible for leading project design, ensuring the constant evolution and progress of the development programme in responding to the needs for the furthest behind Team management and capacity development
  • Responsible for team management, adhering to SSHJM HR policies and procedures, in support of all staff. Line management responsibilities for project staff.
  • Ensuring there are competent and empowered team, in a fair, diverse and efficient workplace.
  • Responsible for team and staff development, supporting and motivating staff development, progression and improvements, fostering an organisational culture of learning and development.
  • Undertaking initiatives to ensure a good working environment and team spirit.
  • Ensuring all staff uphold and promote SSHJM’s values, demonstrating leadership on workplace equality, diversity and inclusion, and role modelling a positive safeguarding ethos.
  • Ensuring staff performance reviews are undertaken for all staff with appropriate training, development and opportunities identified.
Grant management
  • Take responsibility for oversight of all project grants highlighting and guiding the reporting and proposal commitments required for the relevant donor from a compliance perspective, setting timelines.
  • Working closely with the Finance Team, regularly track expenditure and monitor variances on programme budget/expenditure reports against budget forecasts.
  • Maintain the reporting schedule and a grants management system (GMS), ensuring timely and accurate reporting both internally and to donors.
  • Set up, and partake in grant opening, and grant closure meetings in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with all staff to ensure that all deliverables are completed within the grant period and that all budget revisions are carried out in line with donor regulations.
Representation, networking and communication
  • Creating a strong and visible profile for the organisation, as a leading development actor at local and national level.
  • Communicating information regarding SSHJM and its projects at local and national level to Government, donors, civil society, UN, alliances and networks across a range of fora.
  • Engaging appropriately with the media to ensure that SSHJM’s projects and values, and vision are highlighted.
  • Representing SSHJM in strategic local and national meetings.
  • Ensuring relationships and formal agreements with the government are maintained and updated.
  • Ensure development of strategic partnerships.
  • Contribute to an effective communication strategy, which increases organisational profile and contributes to advocacy actions.
Accountability and safeguarding
  • Managing the implementation of safeguarding policies and procedures; and response to breaches of the SSHJM Code of Conduct and Associated Policies.
  • Ensuring that all project staff are familiar with the principles underpinning accountability and safeguarding and ensure that information on accountability and safeguarding are disseminated among programme participants and communities.
The Person
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 - 5 years' experience as a Project Manager for a medium to large-sized organisation.
  • Thorough understanding of safeguarding and accountability considerations in development work.
  • Demonstrable experience of working to attract institutional donor funding and of managing large donor grants.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and to implement and further develop our strategic plan.
  • Excellent Project Cycle Management and Results Based Management skills.
  • Excellent financial management skills.
  • A firm understanding of the sector in which our organization operates.
  • Excellent leadership skills, dynamic and willing to take initiative.
  • Highly organised, with excellent planning, prioritisation and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to motivate staff to align behind a shared vision and objectives.
  • Ability to coach and help others develop in their professional lives.
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent written, oral and presentational communications skills.
  • Proficient at using technology in project management processes.
