AGS Librarian Duties and Responsibilities
The Librarian primarily provides students, teachers, and the whole community with reading materials, services, and activities that enhance their love of reading. He supports the academic, information, literacy, and research needs of students, faculty, and the school community.The librarian promotes a culture of reading, inquiry, digital citizenship, and lifelong learning through effective library programs, services, and resource management.
He collaborates with the Katigbak Educational Media Center (KEMC) Coordinator on planning, teaching, and integrating library services with the school’s academic and non-academic programs. He is under the supervision of the KEMC Coordinator, the Subject Area Coordinator (SAC) for English, the Academic Coordinator (AC), and the Grade Level Coordinator (GLC).
Each librarian handles a specific area in the KEMC and performs corresponding tasks in addition to their regular duties.
Key responsibilities include:
Library Management – Oversee the day-to-day operations of the library, including circulation, scheduling, library policies, and maintenance of a safe, organized, and welcoming learning environment.
Collection Development and Resource Management – Select, acquire, organize, evaluate, and maintain print, digital, and multimedia resources that support the curriculum and meet the needs of library patrons.
Information and Digital Literacy Instruction – Conduct Media and Information Literacy Program (MILP) that develops students’ research, information evaluation, media literacy, and digital citizenship skills.
Research and Reference Services – Assist students and teachers in locating, evaluating, and using information resources for classroom activities, projects, and research.
Reading and Literacy Promotion – Plan, implement, and evaluate programs and activities that encourage reading, lifelong learning, and the effective use of library resources.
Teacher Collaboration and Curriculum Support – Work closely with subject teachers and subject area coordinators or academic coordinators to identify instructional resource needs, support curriculum implementation, and integrate library services into classroom learning.
Technology and Digital Resource Support – Facilitate access to online databases, e-books, educational technologies, and other digital learning resources and devices.
Records, Reports, and Assessment – Maintain library statistics, inventories, budgets, and reports, and participate in library planning, evaluation, and school accreditation requirements.
Professional Development – Participate in training, seminars, and professional organizations to remain current with trends and best practices in school librarianship and education.
Other Duties – Perform other library-related tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the KEMC Coordinator.
