Network Engineer

The Network Engineer will be responsible for implementing, maintaining, supporting, developing and, in some cases, designing the communication network. The goal is to ensure the integrity of our high-availability network infrastructure to provide maximum performance for the users.

Reporting To: Regional IT Manager

• Establish the networking environment by designing system configurations, directing system installations, defining, documenting and enforcing system standards.
• Maximize network efficiency by monitoring performance, troubleshooting network problems and outages, scheduling upgrades and providing off-site/on-site repairs when required.
• Perform day-to-day LAN, WAN and network security implementation alongside project delivery for Network services.
• Assist in network equipment configuration and service provisioning, including upgrading data network equipment to the latest stable firmware releases.
• Manage and resolve customer problems and inquiries via email/phone/face-to-face and maintain up-to-date status of the IT support ticketing system.
• Remote support of on-site engineers and end users/customers during installation and throughout the agreement term.
• Maintain accurate Software and Hardware inventory for networking equipment across all regions.
• Assist in developing long-term strategies and capacity planning to meet future network requirements and needs within the region
• Liaise with project management teams, third-line engineers and service desk engineers regularly
• Manage and proactively monitor the network infrastructure and equipment. Perform initial diagnostics and escalate to a higher level to resolve the issues.
• Provision network on the core network equipment.
• Escalate and liaise with ISP and local vendors for all Internet and network-related problems and outages.
• Log and update tickets in the ITSM Ticketing tools based on category and priority.
• Manage and support the 24/7 Network Operations Centre (NOC).

• A Diploma or higher in Computer Science or related disciplines with a minimum of 3 years’ work experience in Networking
• Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification required; additional certifications (e.g., ITIL Foundation) preferred.
• Experience with Enterprise and Service Provider network hardware platforms and architectures, including Cisco routers, switches and firewall platforms
• Experience in customer-facing roles, with service provider experience is preferred.
• Strong competence in routing and switching technologies and protocols, including TCP/IP, STP, VLAN, VRRP, CDP, LLDP, BGP, ISIS, OSPF, and MPLS
• Demonstrate ability to analyze complex situations and utilize troubleshooting skills, systems and tools
• Strong attention to detail with excellent time management and organization skills, Independent, excellent interpersonal skills, highly motivated and ability to work under pressure
• On-call availability during off hours
• Amenable to work in a 24/7 shifting schedule, holidays and weekends
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) in English.
• Experience in using IT Service Management (ITSM) tools would be an advantage
