SUMMARY

The Systems Administrator (MSP) is responsible for maintaining client IT environments, ensuring reliable operations, and supporting day-to-day IT functions in a Managed Services Provider setting. This role blends operational oversight with system administration expertise, covering monitoring, ticket management, patching, backups, and automation.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, adaptable, and comfortable managing multiple client environments while upholding service quality, security, and compliance.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Systems Administration
  • Manage, configure, and maintain Windows Server, Active Directory, Azure AD, and Microsoft 365 environments.
  • Perform OS and third-party application patching, testing, and deployment across client environments.
  • Monitor and optimize system performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Support virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud services (Azure, AWS or equivalent).
  • Conduct and validate backup and restore operations through Cove, Datto/MSP platforms.
  • Ensure SaaS backup protection and cleanup are performed to maintain efficiency.
IT Operations & Monitoring
  • Monitor and respond to RMM/PSA alerts, dashboards, and logs to ensure proactive issue resolution.
  • Review and maintain ticket boards for accuracy, timely updates, and closure.
  • Verify workstation discovery and asset management jobs for completeness and accuracy.
  • Maintain accurate hardware, software, and licensing inventory records.
  • Process and track change requests in alignment with organizational policies.
  • Post and report department metrics to maintain visibility and accountability.
Automation & Scripting
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts (PowerShell, Python, or RMM scripting) to streamline repetitive tasks.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency through automation and standardized processes.
Security & Compliance
  • Enforce security best practices in user lifecycle management (onboarding, terminations, access control).
  • Maintain compliance through patch reporting, backup audits, and system hardening reviews.
  • Support audits and reporting requirements with accurate, timely data.
Client & Team Collaboration
  • Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless service delivery
  • Participate in Proactive Business Reviews (PBR) and Lifecycle Initiatives (LCI) by providing system insights.
  • Communicate technical details clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • At least 5 years of experience as systems administrator
  • Experience in a Managed Services Provider (MSP) environment strongly preferred.
  • High attention to detail and strong technical proficiency
  • Strong desktop and server support experience
  • Proficiency with RMM/PSA platforms (N-central, ConnectWise, Datto, ScreenConnect or equivalents).
  • Hands-on experience with Windows Server administration, Active Directory, Azure AD, and Microsoft 365.
  • Knowledge of patch management tools (WSUS, Intune, or third-party patching platforms).
  • Strong understanding of backup solutions and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Scripting and automation skills (PowerShell, Python, or equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of infrastructure and automation opportunities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities across client environments.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Should be willing to accept a long-term work-from-home arrangement.
  • Should be amenable to a permanent night shift schedule.
