JOB SUMMARY:
- The Internal Audit Manager is responsible for overseeing and leading audit engagements, ensuring alignment with the annual audit plan and organizational objectives. They lead the development of audit strategies, manage audit teams, and ensure the timely execution of engagements. This role involves reviewing and approving audit deliverables, providing advanced guidance on risk identification and control assessment, and resolving complex audit issues.
- The Internal Audit Manager is responsible for stakeholder engagement, including presenting findings to senior management, finalizing audit reports, and ensuring the resolution of audit observations. Beyond audit engagements, they contribute to departmental management by preparing key reports for executive leadership and the Board, overseeing resource planning, and driving team development through performance management, coaching, and strategic training initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Planning the Audit Engagement- Act as the team head of internal audit activities in accordance with the approved internal audit program and annual audit plan.
- Plan the overall audit strategy and procedures to be performed to meet engagement objectives.
- Discuss with business units the scope of the audit engagement and required documents.
- Manage and communicate assigned tasks/ responsibilities to team members.
- Lead assigned audit engagements and handle moderate to complex audits.
- Develop a thorough understanding of business units’ processes, completely and clearly identifying controls that address process-level risks.
- Facilitate the execution of appropriate audit procedures based on the approved audit engagement plan.
- Review the deliverables of team members (e.g., working paper, audit observation, audit report) for quality, sufficiency, reliability, and relevance.
- Provide guidance to team members in resolving problems encountered during audit engagements, and/or resolve escalated issues.
- Monitor the status of audit engagements and ensure adherence to set timelines.
- Identify risks and control weaknesses in the audited unit’s processes and ensure team members are able to document audit evidence to support findings.
- Manage stakeholders’ expectations and feedback.
- Lead and guide the team, and review the output of team members in writing the final audit communication (e.g., audit brief, detailed audit observations).
- Lead the presentation of findings to business units and respond to clarifications by the audit client, as needed.
- Prepare/draft internal audit reports objectively and concisely, maintaining relevance and quality, and ensuring stakeholders’ position or insights are considered.
- Lead and/or guide the team members, if any, in monitoring and following up on the business unit’s reply to audit observations and resolution of outstanding audit findings.
- Assist the Internal Audit Asst. Director and/or Head in the preparation of documentary requirements to complete the reports to management and the Board (e.g., budget, manpower, periodic reports to the Board).
- Monitor and provide feedback on the performance of team members and conduct coaching/counseling.
- Enforce discipline and proper behavioral traits to subordinates, maintaining a fair, consistent, and non-prejudicial approach.
- Identify training needs and recommend learning/training opportunities for employees to ensure their continuous professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduate of Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Audit, Business, or other similar course
- At least five (5) years of auditing and accounting-related work experience in a managerial role, gained from reputable auditing and financial institutions
- Exposure in risk management, compliance, corporate governance, process improvement, fraud audits, internal control frameworks, and audit standards
- Preferably a Certified Public Accountant (CPA)/ Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)/ Certified Information System Auditor (CISA/ Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent analytical and critical thinking skills
- Excellent negotiating and problem-solving skills
- Extensive knowledge in accounting, auditing, and risk management principles and standards
