Job Description

Role Overview

We are looking for a Lead SAP BI Engineer specializing in SAP BusinessObjects (BO) and SAP BW/4HANA to support and evolve our enterprise analytics and reporting platforms.

This role is part of the BIDA organization, where teams own both the development and operational support of analytics solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong technical expertise in SAP BO and SAP BW/4HANA with the ability to guide and mentor engineers, help coordinate support activities, and ensure the stability of BI platforms in production.

Our analytics ecosystem integrates SAP BO, SAP BW/4HANA, and Databricks, and this role will primarily focus on BI platform expertise and operational reliability, while collaborating with data engineering teams supporting modern Azure data platforms.

This role plays a key part in ensuring the reliability and evolution of enterprise reporting systems used across multiple business domains.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership for SAP BO and SAP BW/4HANA solutions across the team, including coordinating complex troubleshooting and support activities.
• Guide engineers on best practices for reporting, data modeling, and platform operations.
• Support knowledge sharing and mentoring of junior engineers.
• Assist in technical design reviews and solution architecture discussions.

• Develop and maintain Web Intelligence (WebI) reports.
• Design and maintain Universes using Information Design Tool (IDT).
• Troubleshoot report performance, refresh failures, and scheduling issues.
• Support operational administration of the BO platform using Central Management Console (CMC).

• SAP BW/4HANA Development & Support
• Develop and maintain BW/4HANA data models, including ADSO and Composite Providers.
• Create and maintain BW Queries used for reporting and analytics.
• Perform development using BW Modeling Tools in Eclipse.
• Troubleshoot issues related to data extraction, transformations, and reporting dependencies.
• Support BW/4HANA data pipelines feeding BI platforms.

• Design and maintain analytics data models supporting reporting workloads.
• Apply data modeling best practices, including star schema and dimensional modeling techniques.
• Ensure reporting datasets are optimized for performance, scalability, and usability.
• Collaborate with data engineering teams to align modeling standards across platforms.

• Work with SAP ChaRM (Change Request Management) for controlled change deployments.
• Coordinate transports across development, QA, and production environments.
• Ensure compliance with change governance and release management processes.

• Participate in production support and incident management.
• Monitor data loads, report schedules, and BI platform services.
• Perform root cause analysis and implement preventative improvements.
• Maintain operational documentation and support runbooks.

• Work with Azure Databricks engineers to integrate BW/4HANA data with modern data platforms.
• Support reporting solutions consuming Databricks datasets.
• Ensure consistency and reliability across BW/4HANA, BO, and modern analytics platforms.

• Identify opportunities to improve reporting performance and simplify BI architecture.
• Improve automation, monitoring, and operational reliability.
• Contribute to DataOps operational best practices and platform standards.
