Legal Programme Officer - TR Foundations

About the Role:

  • The Legal Programme/ Programme Officer, Asia will be based out of Manila and work closely with our Asia Hub. Playing a key role in supporting TrustLaw's members and delivering the TrustLaw service across Asia-Pacific (South Asia, East Asia, North Asia, South-East Asia and Oceania), the person in this role will:
  • Support, engage and devise strategies to expand our community of NGO and social enterprise members across the region
  • Administer the TrustLaw service, including recruiting and vetting new members, collecting feedback, fielding questions and updating the database
  • Build and steward relationships with civil society organisations
  • Coordinate events, projects and communications strategies
  • Represent TrustLaw in meetings, presentations and events
  • Support the development and implementation of the TrustLaw strategy in the region and reporting on results
  • Develop the quarterly Newsletter for the region
  • Identify, explore and connect with a broad range of social enterprises and NGOs whose objectives include access to justice, responsible business and independent media organisations in the region

About You:

The successful candidate will likely have experience with several of the following:

  • 2-3 years of experience in project delivery in the NGO, social enterprise or social impact space in the region
  • Legal education background is an added plus (the role will be Legal Programme Officer if this criteria is fulfilled)
  • Supporting members or beneficiaries to use a service or programme
  • Building and stewarding relationships with civil society organisations
  • Engaging and developing a network or community
  • Client servicing experience
  • Experience managing member based networks at a local, regional or global level
  • Prior experience working on issues of media freedom, responsible business, digital rights, or human rights would be a plus
  • Coordinating and managing projects and/or events, with a keen attention to detail and strong organisational abilities
  • Reporting on progress against a project plan or strategy
  • Using and updating databases, with an ability to quickly understand and use new databases, platforms and technology
  • Coordinating events and communication strategies, such as writing case studies or newsletters
  • Knowledge or fluency in an Asian language will be considered beneficial
  • Willingness to travel internationally
  • Proven ability and willingness to work independently
Please note that this is not a legal role, though any prior experience with the legal sector would be welcome and the designation will include 'legal' if a candidate has legal experience and qualification. We are seeking candidates with strong civil society, project coordination, partnership and/or beneficiary support experience.

We are global team. As such, the successful candidate will be expected to join evening meetings/calls a few times per month as part of team meetings and cross-regional work. This role is offered as a probationary role for 12 months with the possibility of renewal of contract based on performance.
