Safety officer

Job Description

The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and continuously improving the company's safety management systems, occupational health and safety programs, and regulatory compliance requirements. The position ensures that all vessel and shore-based operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable maritime laws, company policies, and international safety standards.

Job Responsibilities:

• Implement and monitor the company's Safety Management System (SMS) in accordance with maritime regulations and company standards.
• Conduct regular inspections and audits of vessels, terminals, and company facilities.
• Conduct risk assessments for vessel operations, maintenance activities, and shore-based operations.
• Identify workplace hazards and recommend appropriate control measures.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Prepare detailed incident reports and recommend corrective actions.
• Maintain safety records, statistics, and documentation.
• Conduct safety orientations for newly hired employees
• Deliver toolbox meetings and safety briefings to vessel crews and shore personnel.
• Organize safety drills, emergency response exercises, and safety awareness programs.
• Coordinate emergency response activities during incidents and emergencies.
• Assist in implementing waste management and pollution prevention programs.
• Maintain safety manuals, procedures, permits, and regulatory records.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual safety performance reports.
• Coordinate submission of required reports to regulatory agencies and management.

• At least 2–3 years of experience in safety, maritime operations, shipping, ferry operations, or a related field.
• Experience in passenger vessel operations is an advantage.
• Certified Safety Officer (SO1/SO2) under applicable occupational safety and health regulations.
• Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH) Training.
• Relevant maritime safety and emergency response training is preferred.
• Knowledge of ISM Code implementation is an advantage.
