 I.  Laboratory Operations
  • Provides support to teachers and students for laboratory experiments and researches
  • Secures and prepares equipment and materials needed
  • Guides laboratory users on safe use and handling of equipment and chemicals
  • Operates and calibrates precision equipment prior to use for experiments and research
  • Observes laboratory experiments carefully and answers questions when necessary
  • Supports simultaneous classes when needed
  • Ensures that the laboratory is functioning well, clean, and organized
  • Checks all laboratory and audio-visual equipment regularly and secures them when not in use
  • Keeps all hazardous chemicals safely and neatly stored and safely disposes any hazardous wastes appropriately following established standards
  • Performs troubleshooting and minor repair of equipment, as needed
  • Inventories of equipment, chemicals, and other laboratory materials and supplies
  • Laboratory breakages and losses
  • Facilitates the purchase of required materials to ensure availability for faculty and students using the applicable channel (e.g., Petty cash, e-Requisition, or Reimbursement) and following established policies and guidelines
  • Oversees the scheduling and maintenance of the Biology and Biophysics labs to ensure smooth operations and avoid facility and/or resource scheduling conflicts
  • Performs first-aid emergency measures for accidents, and coordinates next steps for handling the emergency with the appropriate individuals/units as needed
  • Monitors and secures experimental set-ups in the laboratory and external areas
  • Creates demonstration videos for instruction and information on laboratory matters, and for special events as needed
II. Support for Science Subject Area
  • Provides support and collaborates with faculty members in designing laboratory examinations for students (e.g., setting-up experiment stations with designated exam questions per station)
  • Serves as resource and participates in brainstorming activities/consultations in relation to the execution of the School’s MV
  • Secures and safekeeps student and faculty files for each grade level (e.g., copies of exams, exercises, answer keys, etc.) and laboratory files (e.g., laboratory results, laboratory designs, etc.), to ensure that confidentiality and discretion in handling restricted information and data are observed
  • Participates and collaborates during subject area faculty meetings by actively engaging, contributing insights, and staying informed about departmental matters
  • Recommends improvements for laboratory session flows, laboratory management practices, etc.
  • Attends Science laboratory technicians’ meetings facilitated by the Subject Area Coordinator and Science Laboratory Manager to foster cohesive communication and sharing of best practices
  • Provides laboratory and other essential support to the various Science Subject Area programs and activities as needed (e.g. subject area outreach seminar workshops, field trips, etc.)
  • Collates and safekeeps records, forms, and other relevant laboratory materials for documentation and accreditation purposes
  • Sets-up, tests, and performs minor troubleshooting/maintenance upgrades for instructional computer and AV equipment in the laboratories when needed, following IT policies/guidelines covering related equipment
  • Keeps abreast of new laboratory technologies and equipment by attending training programs and workshops, and translates acquired knowledge by providing practical recommendations for the subject area
  • Actively participates in Emergency Response and Safety efforts of the school, particularly those pertaining to the laboratory facilities
Description of Education, Competence, and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Biology, or other related courses
  • At least 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience working in an academic setting is an advantage
