Senior Accountant

We are a dynamic U.S.-based company seeking a remote Senior Accountant based in Manila to take ownership of sales tax compliance across multiple U.S. states. You’ll collaborate closely with our U.S. finance team to ensure accurate filings, mitigate risk, and support various general accounting functions.This is a highly visible role within our accounting function, ideal for someone with U.S. tax exposure and a strong operational mindset.

- Prepare, reconcile, and file sales and use tax returns across multiple U.S. states and local jurisdictions, ensuring 100% compliance.
- Proactively manage sales tax registrations, nexus tracking, and timely renewals.
- Maintain and validate tax exemption certificates and support sales and customer service teams with taxability questions.
- Collaborate with tax engine vendors such as Avalara to configure tax codes and validate system accuracy.
- Monitor and respond to state notices, audits, or discrepancy letters in coordination with legal or external advisors.
- Research changes in state and local sales tax laws, providing internal updates and risk guidance.
- Validate and process customer refunds.
- Maintain weekly reconciliations to support the Revenue Accounting process.
- Assist the U.S. accounting team with month-end close, including reconciliations, journal entries, and accruals.
- Help prepare audit schedules, supporting documentation, and answer external auditor questions as needed.
- Contribute to internal controls improvement, documentation of processes, and cross-training initiatives.
- Participate in ad hoc projects, such as system upgrades, automation tools, or process optimization.

Education/Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Experience Required:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in accounting, preferably including hands-on U.S. sales tax work.
- Familiarity with U.S. state and local sales tax compliance.
- High proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
- Comfortable working independently in a remote setup and supporting U.S. time zones.
- Experience working with U.S.-based companies, particularly customers.
- Experience working with company resale sales tax certificates.
- Experience using tax automation tools (preferably Avalara) and ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft Dynamics GP, NetSuite).
- Familiarity with Power BI, Power Automate, or cloud-based financial reporting tools.
