Director for Nursing

JOB DESCRIPTION:

• Upholds the mission statement and strategic goals of the Center and actively participates in developing and implementing the overall direction and policies of the Medical Center.
• Formulates and disseminates the mission, vision and objectives of the nursing service in line with the strategic thrust and business plans in the Medical Center.
• Provides written short and long-term plans designed to implement and facilitate achievement of the nursing service objectives.
• Participates in hospital policy decisions that affect direct patient care.
• Develops, reviews, approves and enforces written policies and procedures of the Nursing Service.
• Develops and displays a written table of organization depicting the positions of the nursing department, channels of communication and the relationship of the nursing department with other departments.
• Maintains an active awareness of the nursing staffing patterns in relation to safe and effective treatment and budgetary goals and monitors the effectiveness of the staffing plan.
• Spearheads the formulation, implementation and evaluation of a nursing personnel management program that includes the handling of disciplinary issues.
• Determines the resources, facilities, supplies and equipment, needed for the nursing department to carry out its functions, and submits written reports on these as required.
• Actively oversees the development of the Nursing Service budget. Tracks budget expenditures and reports issues of over-budget expenditures and changes to an approved budget.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

• Masters degree in Nursing, Masters or PhD in Health Administration is an advantage
• At least 5 years experience in clinical nursing; at least 5 years experience in administrative/supervisory nursing
• Knowledge of current nursing practices; Leadership and management, time management, coordination, delegation, critical thinking, decision making, motivational and resource management, and excellent interpersonal skills
