Application Support Consultant (Technical Support)

Job Summary:
This role is responsible for delivering high-quality operational product support and technical servicing across customer environments, hosted services, and product lines. The Technical Support Consultant ensures service reliability, maintains compliance with security policies, and contributes to continuous improvement through automation, process enhancement, and proactive customer engagement.
Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure adherence to Client's Quality and Security Policies in all activities.
- Develop, build, test, and deploy automation tools to streamline operational processes.
- Maintain operational focus on the application and effectiveness of security controls.
- Provide proactive, professional customer service in line with SLA commitments.
- Maintain technical competency across supported products, platforms, and hosted services.
- Actively contribute to a cooperative and proactive team environment.
- Identify and escalate opportunities for business improvement and service optimization.
- Prioritize tasks and deliver against project deadlines.
- Ensure technical and procedural documentation is accurate and current.
- Support change management, incident, and problem management processes.
- Conduct scheduled application upgrades and updates in accordance with approved change requests and client bookings.
- Undertake other tasks and projects as directed by the Technical Support Management Team.
- Adherence to the BPS On Call roster allocation for escalation from the Support centre or Hosted outages.
Qualification:
- Strong programming and scripting capability in modern development languages.
- Technical knowledge in:
o Windows (PowerShell) and Unix/Linux (Shell) scripting
o Windows and Unix/Linux system administration
o Company product line and applications- Experience with ITIL practices and change management.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical capability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate across teams.
- Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
Must have's:
- Experience in customer-focused IT/Application support.
- Experience with scripting and task automation.
- Proficiency in PowerShell development. Preferred:
- Relevant tertiary qualifications. Desirable:
- Experience in payroll software environments.
- Experience with cloud service platforms (Azure, AWS, etc.).
- Experience with Microsoft .NET.
- Intermediate SQL skills.
