 I.  PURPOSE

The Design and Development Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and enhancing tools, processes, procedures, and automations that strengthen Managed Services delivery. The role focuses on transforming innovative ideas into operationally ready solutions through structured research, exploratory design, proof-of-concept (POC/POV), testing, and validation activities.

Working under the direction of the Design and Development Lead and in accordance with Project Governance guidelines, the engineer ensures that all new initiatives and capability enhancements are properly designed, tested, documented, and aligned with established governance frameworks.

This position emphasizes innovation, disciplined engineering practices, and continuous improvement to support scalable, secure, and reliable service delivery.

II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General Responsibilities
  • Perform assigned development, research, and design tasks efficiently and within agreed timelines.
  • Adhere to established design, testing, and documentation standards to ensure consistency and quality.
  • Contribute to shared knowledge repositories covering systems, platforms, and service processes.
  • Foster collaboration, trust, and open communication across teams.
  • Represent the organization professionally, demonstrating technical competence in internal and client-facing engagements.
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and improve documentation, technical specifications, and optimization guidelines.
  • Coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure solutions align with organizational objectives and client requirements.
Governance-Aligned Design and Exploration
  • Execute design and development initiatives approved or initiated by Project Governance, ensuring alignment with defined goals and approval processes.
  • Research and assess new technologies, tools, and methodologies that support Managed Services innovation.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, technical assessments, and exploratory research.
  • Prepare technical reports and recommendations to support governance decision-making and prioritization.
Platform Design and Development
  • Design, develop, and implement new capabilities, tools, integrations, and automations to enhance managed services.
  • Build scripts, prototypes, and configurations to introduce new functionality into existing environments.
  • Work closely with technical leads to ensure solutions are scalable, efficient, and aligned with service objectives.
  • Perform structured testing, validation, and documentation prior to operational handover.
Capability Enablement and Innovation
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, and approaches to improve service efficiency and outcomes.
  • Conduct Proof of Concept (POC) and Proof of Value (POV) initiatives to assess potential solutions.
  • Present findings and recommendations to management and key stakeholders.
  • Establish baseline standards, templates, and reusable components for newly developed capabilities.
Service Design and Definition
  • Design and document new service components, workflows, and processes that meet operational and client needs.
  • Define service dependencies, success metrics, and technical requirements for new offerings.
  • Produce service documentation, operational playbooks, and readiness materials for transition to operations.
Quality Engineering and Validation
  • Develop and execute test plans to validate performance, stability, and functionality.
  • Ensure solutions meet agreed design objectives and performance benchmarks.
  • Document lessons learned and improvement opportunities to support continuous refinement.
Change and Implementation Readiness
  • Support controlled deployment and rollout of new tools, systems, and procedures.
  • Prepare change documentation, release notes, and deployment instructions.
  • Participate in implementation readiness reviews to ensure smooth transition to operational teams.
Configuration and Knowledge Management
  • Maintain accurate configuration records and documentation for newly developed capabilities.
  • Ensure all designs, builds, and changes are version-controlled and traceable.
  • Contribute design artifacts, test results, and operational guidance to the internal knowledge base.
Problem Identification and Improvement Design
  • Analyze feedback from testing, pilots, and stakeholders to identify enhancement opportunities.
  • Design and document corrective and preventive actions to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with technical teams to integrate improvements into existing systems and processes.
Access and Security Integration
  • Design and implement secure access models and control mechanisms for new platforms and tools.
  • Work with security teams to ensure compliance with internal policies and external security standards.
Resource and Asset Optimization
  • Integrate performance, scalability, and efficiency considerations into all designs.
  • Recommend optimization opportunities to BAU and Operations teams based on testing and design insights.
Continuous Improvement and Process Evolution
  • Regularly evaluate and enhance design, development, and testing practices.
  • Develop reusable frameworks and processes to accelerate future capability development.
  • Promote innovation and knowledge sharing to improve overall service maturity.
III. QUALIFICATIONSA. Minimum Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
 B.  Minimum Experience / Training
  • 1–2 years of experience in IT, development, or engineering roles.
  • Familiarity with relevant tools and platforms, including:
  • Service management and automation tools (e.g., Swimlane, n8n, ServiceNow, ManageEngine ServiceDesk Plus, Freshservice).
  • Network technologies (e.g., firewalls, network monitoring tools, access points, switches, SD-WAN, VPN).
  • Compute technologies (e.g., bare metal, VMware, Hyper-V, Docker, Kubernetes, AWS Lambda, Azure Functions).
  • Foundational knowledge of networking and security concepts, with exposure to modern IT or cybersecurity tools.

Preferred but not required:

  • Training in process design, service delivery, or automation.
  • Certifications in information security management or auditing.
  • Experience in research and development or platform engineering initiatives.
 C.  Competencies
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell, VBA).
  • Experience with containerization, virtualization, and infrastructure automation tools.
  • Knowledge of relational and non-relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, MongoDB).
  • Familiarity with orchestration and automation platforms (e.g., Power Automate, Ansible, Jenkins, Terraform).
  • Strong understanding of networking, operating systems (Windows and Linux), and security principles.
  • Strong analytical skills to assess, optimize, and improve workflows, integrations, and configurations.
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Hybrid work arrangement, reporting to the main office in Makati City.
  • Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, both on-site and remotely.
  • Occasional travel for client meetings, company-sponsored conferences, and related events.
  • Participation in training programs and pursuit of certifications relevant to the role.
