Teacher/Tutor

The Full-Time Tutor will provide educational support, guidance, and encouragement to children living in residential care. The tutor will work with approximately 11-13 children in Grades 5–12 using a modular curriculum in both small group and one-on-one settings.

This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about education, patient with children who are behind in school, spiritually grounded, and committed to helping young people grow academically, emotionally, and personally.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist children in understanding and completing their modular curriculum
• Provide one-on-one tutoring support when needed
• Adapt teaching approaches according to each child’s learning needs and pace
• Encourage positive study habits, responsibility, and independent learning

• Track academic progress and participation with quarterly progress reports
• Communicate concerns, achievements, or educational needs with other staff
• Help identify children who may need additional educational support

• Maintain a structured, safe, respectful, and encouraging learning atmosphere
• Support emotional regulation and healthy behavior during study time
• Promote confidence, motivation, and a love for learning

• Work cooperatively with shelter staff and leadership and support the over mission of the shelter
• Participate in meetings or educational planning discussions when needed
