GSS Builders LLC is a luxury home builder specializing in high-end custom residential projects in McLean, Virginia, USA. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Architect to lead the design and technical development of luxury single-family homes for the U.S. market.
This role is ideal for an architect with strong leadership abilities, excellent technical expertise, and a passion for sophisticated residential architecture.
Position Overview
The Senior Architect will lead architectural planning, zoning analysis, design development, permit documentation, and construction drawing production for luxury residential projects. The ideal candidate must possess advanced knowledge of U.S. residential design standards, county approval processes, and high-quality construction documentation.
You will work closely with company leadership, consultants, and project teams to deliver exceptional architectural solutions that meet the highest standards of design excellence and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Architectural Design & Planning- Lead the conceptual design and development of luxury detached single-family homes.
- Produce high-quality architectural presentations, design studies, and project visualizations.
- Develop schematic designs, design development packages, and detailed construction documents.
- Ensure all designs align with client expectations, project goals, and luxury residential market standards.
- Prepare complete permit drawing packages and construction documents for county approvals.
- Conduct zoning analysis including:
- FAR (Floor Area Ratio)
- Setbacks
- Lot coverage
- Building restrictions and local county requirements
- Ensure compliance with applicable U.S. building codes, zoning ordinances, and residential construction standards.
- Coordinate revisions and responses during county review and approval processes.
- Produce accurate architectural plans, elevations, sections, and detailed drawings using AutoCAD.
- Develop 3D models and visual presentations using SketchUp.
- Create presentation-quality architectural graphics for internal reviews and client presentations.
- Lead and mentor the architectural drafting and design team.
- Coordinate with engineers, consultants, contractors, and project managers.
- Manage project timelines, drawing quality, and production efficiency.
- Maintain strong quality control standards throughout all project phases.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Architecture.
- Minimum 7+ years of professional architectural experience.
- Extensive experience in luxury residential or custom home design.
- Strong expertise in U.S. residential construction documentation and permitting processes.
- Advanced proficiency in:
- AutoCAD
- SketchUp
- 3D visualization/rendering software
- Architectural detailing and presentation preparation
- Strong understanding of U.S. zoning and county approval requirements.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Highly responsible, detail-oriented, motivated, and capable of managing multiple projects independently.
- Ability to work full-time during U.S. EST business hours.
- Previous experience working with U.S.-based builders, architects, or design firms.
- Experience in luxury home construction documentation in Virginia or similar U.S. jurisdictions.
- Knowledge of building permit submission procedures and consultant coordination.
