Senior Bookkeeper / U.S. Sales Tax Specialist (Remote)
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Senior Bookkeeper / U.S. Sales Tax Specialist to support a U.S.-based client with bookkeeping cleanup, sales tax compliance, account reconciliations, and ongoing monthly financial support.
The ideal candidate must have hands-on experience with QuickBooks, U.S. sales tax filings, bank and account reconciliations, and bookkeeping for small to medium-sized businesses. Experience handling multi-state and multi-jurisdiction sales tax filings is highly preferred.
This role will initially focus on historical cleanup and reconciliation work, followed by ongoing bookkeeping and monthly sales tax compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Tax Compliance- Review, prepare, and file overdue sales tax returns.
- Handle sales tax filings across multiple state, city, county, and local jurisdictions.
- Research tax rates and jurisdiction requirements.
- Review existing sales tax configurations and identify discrepancies.
- Ensure ongoing monthly sales tax compliance and accurate filings.
- Maintain filing calendars and ensure deadlines are met.
- Perform historical bookkeeping cleanup and account reconciliation.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card accounts, and other balance sheet accounts.
- Review and reconcile approximately 1,000+ historical transactions.
- Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
- Ensure financial records are accurate and complete.
- Maintain and update QuickBooks records.
- Review chart of accounts and transaction classifications.
- Ensure proper coding of expenses and revenues.
- Generate financial reports as needed.
- Support month-end and year-end closing activities.
- Manage monthly bookkeeping activities.
- Monitor financial transactions and maintain organized records.
- Assist with financial reporting and management requests.
- Communicate findings and recommendations to management.
Required Qualifications
Education- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA is a strong advantage but not required.
- Minimum 3-5 years of bookkeeping experience supporting U.S.-based companies.
- Minimum 2 years of QuickBooks Online experience.
- Experience handling U.S. sales tax filings.
- Experience performing account reconciliations and bookkeeping cleanup projects.
- Experience working remotely with U.S. clients.
