Purpose of the Role

The Payroll & Financial Accountant is a hybrid role responsible for the accurate execution of payroll operations (AU & US), compliance monitoring, and core financial accounting duties. This role ensures that payroll and general ledger transactions are processed in a timely and compliant manner and supports financial reporting, forecasting, and reconciliation processes.

The position is critical in maintaining robust internal controls, ensuring audit readiness, and providing reliable financial insights for decision-making.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Payroll Processing & Compliance (AU & US)
  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing across Australia and the United States.
  • Maintain and configure payroll systems to ensure alignment with business operations and legal requirements.
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll legislation (tax, leave, superannuation, benefits) and apply updates accordingly.
  • Administer accurate pay classifications, benefits, leave accruals, and superannuation contributions.
  • Maintain comprehensive payroll records for audit and legal compliance.
  • Prepare payroll budgets and forecasts; reconcile payroll accruals at month-end.
  • Support implementation and monitoring of payroll-related compliance controls.
  1. Financial Accounting & Month-End Close
  • Maintain the general ledger and supporting ledgers ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Prepare monthly profit & loss statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports in collaboration with the finance team.
  • Complete month-end processes, including accruals, amortisation schedules, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and support depreciation calculations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of financial reporting formats and schedules.
  • Support preparation of department performance packs and weekly reports (e.g. daily sales, weekly eCommerce summaries).
