Job Summary

The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the complete planning, design review, technical evaluation, installation supervision, testing, commissioning, and maintenance oversight of all mechanical systems in construction projects. This includes HVAC systems, fire protection mechanical components, pumps, piping systems, and other related mechanical works.

The role ensures all mechanical systems are:

  • Efficient and cost-effective
  • Safe and compliant with national codes
  • Properly integrated with structural and electrical systems
  • Delivered on time and within approved budget
Duties and Responsibilities
 A.  Project Planning & Engineering Design
  • Review mechanical plans, specifications, shop drawings, and Bill of Quantities (BOQ).
  • Perform heat load calculations, ventilation analysis, and duct sizing.
  • Prepare piping layouts and mechanical system routing.
  • Conduct equipment capacity verification and system performance checks.
  • Prepare detailed material take-offs and cost estimates.
  • Assist in value engineering initiatives to optimize cost and performance.
  • Develop mechanical work schedules aligned with overall project timeline.
  • Participate in coordination meetings with architects, civil, structural, electrical, and sanitary engineers.
  • Utilize AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and MEP software for drafting and coordination.

 B.  HVAC & Mechanical System Design

Design and oversee installation of:

  • Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems
  • Chilled water systems
  • Exhaust and ventilation systems
  • Select and specify mechanical equipment including:
  • Chillers
  • Boilers
  • Cooling towers
  • Pumps
  • Air Handling Units (AHU)
  • Fan Coil Units (FCU)
  • Ensure optimal climate control and indoor air quality.
  • Review supplier technical data and approve submittals.
 C.  Site Supervision & Implementation
  • Supervise mechanical installation works on-site.
  • Ensure compliance with approved drawings and technical specifications.
  • Monitor subcontractors and mechanical workers.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and quality checks.
  • Enforce occupational safety standards.
  • Ensure proper alignment, support, insulation, and installation of mechanical components.
  • Monitor work progress and report deviations.
 D.  Testing, Commissioning & Turnover
  • Lead system testing and performance verification.
  • Conduct:
  • HVAC balancing
  • Pump performance testing
  • Fire protection mechanical testing
  • Ensure systems meet performance benchmarks prior to turnover.
  • Address punch list items.
  • Prepare commissioning reports and system manuals.
  • Assist in client demonstrations and turnover procedures.
 E.  Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure compliance with:
  • National Building Code of the Philippines
  • Fire Code of the Philippines
  • Mechanical Engineering Law
  • Assist in securing necessary permits and approvals.
  • Prepare as-built drawings and turnover documents.
  • Submit weekly accomplishment reports.
  • Provide cost monitoring and variation reports.
  • Escalate major technical issues to Project Manager.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Licensed Mechanical Engineer (Preferred)
  • 2–5 years construction experience (MEP works preferred)
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC, fire protection systems, pumps, and piping
  • Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit, BIM, and MS Office
  • Knowledgeable in Philippine construction codes
  • Strong leadership, coordination, and analytical skills
  • Ability to manage subcontractors and site workforce
  • Willing to be assigned in NCR / CALABARZON
