Heavy equipment mechanic

Job Description

• Perform routine maintenance and servicing of rail construction and maintenance equipment
• Diagnose mechanical faults and troubleshoot issues in machinery and vehicles
• Carry out repairs on engines, hydraulic systems, brakes, and other mechanical components
• Inspect equipment to ensure it meets safety and operational standards
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed
• Coordinate with site supervisors to schedule maintenance activities with minimal disruption
• Ensure availability of spare parts and tools needed for repairs
• Follow health and safety guidelines while performing mechanical work
• Report any major defects or equipment failures to management promptly
• Assist in testing equipment after repairs to confirm proper functioning
• Keep work areas clean and organized to promote safety and efficiency

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Technical or vocational training in mechanical repair, automotive, or heavy equipment maintenance preferred
• Certification in relevant mechanical or technical fields is an advantage
• Basic knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulics, and diesel engines
• Completion of safety training related to workshop and site operations preferred
• Proven experience in maintaining and repairing heavy machinery and construction equipment
• Strong understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and diesel engine systems
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults efficiently
• Experience with rail construction or maintenance equipment is highly desirable
• Knowledge of health and safety standards related to workshop and field operations
• Familiarity with using diagnostic tools and equipment for repairs
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics
• Skilled in performing preventive maintenance to reduce equipment breakdowns
• Good organizational skills for maintaining tools and spare parts inventory
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a construction environment
