The Pollution Control Officer (PCO) is responsible for ensuring that the institution complies with all environmental laws and regulations, while fostering a culture of sustainability. This role involves managing pollution control systems, overseeing waste management, and implementing environmental initiatives to minimize TIP’s ecological impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Compliance and Monitoring:
- Ensure TIP’s adherence to environmental laws such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, and Solid Waste Management Act.
- Regularly monitor the campus for potential environmental hazards, ensuring compliance with pollution control standards.
- Submit required compliance and self-monitoring reports to the Environmental Management Bureau (EMB).
- Operational Management:
- Supervise the operation and maintenance of pollution control facilities like wastewater treatment systems and air quality monitoring devices.
- Oversee hazardous waste management, ensuring all processes are documented and compliant with regulations.
- Incident Management:
- Investigate environmental incidents, such as pollution exceedances, and implement corrective actions.
- Report environmental violations or incidents to appropriate authorities promptly.
- Regulatory Liaison:
- Serve as the primary contact with the EMB and local government units for environmental programs and regulatory compliance.
- Participate in meetings related to environmental monitoring and management.
- Sustainability and Awareness Programs:
- Lead campus-wide environmental campaigns and initiatives to raise awareness about sustainability and pollution control.
- Collaborate with academic departments to integrate environmental practices into the curriculum and daily operations.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain detailed records of inspections, compliance reports, and pollution control measures.
- Prepare periodic reports for TIP leadership and regulatory agencies regarding the status of pollution control efforts.
Qualifications:
- Education: A degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental and Sanitary Engineering or a related field.
- Experience: At least 3 years of experience in environmental management or pollution control, preferably in an academic or institutional setting.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of Philippine environmental laws and regulations.
- Proficient in environmental monitoring and pollution control equipment.
- Excellent communication and reporting skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
