Key Responsibilities
- Installation: Read blueprints to determine system layouts and install pipes, valves, fittings, and fixtures (e.g., sinks, toilets, showers, and water heaters).
- Maintenance & Troubleshooting: Perform routine inspections and tests on plumbing systems to identify issues like leaks, burst pipes, or clogs.
- Repairs: Cut, assemble, and join pipes, and use diagnostic tools and specialized equipment to repair or replace broken parts.
- Compliance: Ensure all plumbing work strictly adheres to local plumbing codes and safety regulations.
- Customer Service: Communicate with clients to explain plumbing issues, provide cost estimates, and suggest preventative maintenance solutions.
- Documentation: Keep detailed records of work performed, time spent, and materials used for invoicing and inventory purposes.
- Collaboration: Work alongside general contractors, builders, electricians, and other professionals during construction projects or home remodels.
- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in understanding hydraulic systems, pipe sizing, and different piping materials (copper, PVC, PVS).
- Mechanical Aptitude: Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use various hand and power tools (pipe wrenches, augers, threading machines, etc.).
- Physical Stamina: Ability to lift heavy equipment, work in confined spaces, and spend long periods standing, bending, or kneeling.
- Math and Blueprint Reading: The ability to accurately measure, calculate, and read technical drawings or architectural plans.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills to clearly explain repairs and costs to clients and collaborate with team members.
- Licensing and Certification: Valid state/local plumbing licenses (e.g., Apprentice, Journeyman, or Master Plumber) and completion of relevant vocational training or apprenticeships.
