What Application Development & Maintenance contributes to Cardinal Health

Information Technology oversees the effective development, delivery, and operation of computing and information services. This function anticipates, plans, and delivers Information Technology solutions and strategies that enable operations and drive business value.

Application Development & Maintenance performs configuration or coding to develop, enhance and sustain the organization's software systems in a cross-functional team environment through adherence to established design control processes and good engineering practices.

This job family programs and configures end user applications, systems, databases and websites to achieve the organization's internal needs and externally-facing business needs. Application Development & Maintenance partners with business leaders, investigates user needs and conducts regular assessments, maintenance and enhancements of existing applications.

The Engineer will contribute to supporting the Pharmaceutical and Specialty Distribution and Product and Solutions Marketing organizations along with the larger enterprise. We are seeking a motivated Engineer to contribute to our new Low-Code Center of Excellence.

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to Platform Evolution: Work with senior team members to understand and contribute to the technical vision for our OutSystems platform and its evolution within a federated development model. Assist in applying SDLC best practices and governance standards.
  • Develop and Innovate on the Core Platform: Assist in building and enhancing the core capabilities of our low-code platform, focusing on creating robust, scalable integrations with our enterprise software solutions under guidance.
  • Build Applications: Participate in the hands-on development of web and native mobile applications using OutSystems to solve key business challenges in areas like business process management and partner relationship management.
  • Support Strategic Initiatives: Learn to translate product vision into tangible technical tasks. Your contributions will help refine initiatives into actionable technical stories, supporting our long-term strategy.
  • Participate in the Federated CoE: Actively participate as a team member within our federated development community. Learn from code reviews, seek mentorship, and help uphold the "golden path" for development teams across the organization.
  • Maintain an inquisitive mindset with a drive to learn and contribute to strategic roadmaps. Assist in refining initiatives into technical stories.
Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in related field, or equivalent work experience, preferred
  • 3+ years of software development experience,
  • Experience with backend language (e.g., .NET, Java, PHP) or front-end JavaScript framework (e.g., React, Angular, Vue).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (GCP is a plus) and modern integration patterns (REST, SOAP, Middleware, etc.).
  • Familiar with low-code application development using OutSystems or a similar enterprise-grade platform. Any OutSystems exposure is a plus.
  • Understanding of/or willingness to learn about the unique security, compliance, and data integrity requirements of the healthcare or pharmaceutical industry (e.g., HIPAA).
