POSITION SUMMARY:

We are looking for a Senior PHP Engineer to join our Support Engineering team, with a focus on strengthening and evolving our platform. Built on a LAMP stack with PHP, jQuery, and MySQL, and hosted in AWS, our platform is a mission-critical system that powers essential business functions.

As part of Support Engineering, you’ll help ensure the platform is stable, scalable, and adaptable for the future. You’ll work closely with Support and Cloud Ops to troubleshoot production issues, design and deliver enhancements, and mentor teammates, all while contributing to a culture of reliability and continuous improvement.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design, develop, and maintain backend applications in PHP within a LAMP environment.
• Collaborate with Support and Cloud Ops to troubleshoot and resolve production issues, ensuring system reliability and uptime.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver enhancements and improve internal and external customer experiences.
• Take ownership of defect and feature tickets, analyze root causes, and deliver code changes that resolve issues or add functionality.
• Write, test, and deploy code changes across the PHP/jQuery/MySQL stack to improve system reliability and customer outcomes.
• Collaborate with the product team to reproduce, diagnose, and fix customer-reported issues.
• Build and maintain MySQL schemas, queries, and APIs to support performance and scalability.
• Contribute to frontend integrations using jQuery and Bootstrap.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices through code reviews and technical guidance.
• Write and maintain unit and integration tests (PHPUnit) to ensure software quality.
• Support continuous delivery by contributing to CI/CD pipeline improvements and deployment best practices.
• Promote secure coding standards and operational excellence across the team.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• 5+ years of backend development experience with PHP in a LAMP environment.
• Strong knowledge of PHP frameworks and MySQL.
• Experience with frontend libraries such as jQuery.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting issues in production systems.
• Understanding of object-oriented programming, design patterns, and SOLID principles.
• Skilled in unit testing and Git-based workflows.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with a history of working cross-functionally.
• Ability to mentor engineers and provide technical leadership.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

• Familiarity with AWS-hosted environments and cloud-native services.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
• Exposure to containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of monitoring, observability, and incident response practices.
• Security-first mindset with awareness of secure coding practices.
