The SPED Senior Teacher is a seasoned and dedicated educator who plays a leadership role in the Learning Center Department. They are responsible for overseeing the implementation of special education programs, mentoring and supporting junior staff, and ensuring that all teaching practices meet both institutional and regulatory standards.

The SPED Senior Teacher also leads in the development and monitoring of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), guides team collaboration, and contributes to curriculum design and program improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the creation, implementation, and review of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to ensure accuracy, compliance, and alignment with student goals.
  • Ensure the team adheres to IEP goals and works collaboratively to meet student needs.
  • Plan and deliver lessons and interventions tailored to learners with special needs.
  • Mentor and support SPED teachers and new hires, sharing best practices and organizing professional learning opportunities for continued growth.
  • Monitor student progress, maintain accurate records, and prepare reports for parents and relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead or support IEP meetings, ensuring coordination among parents and team members.
  • Collaborate with parents, general education teachers, therapists, and other departments to provide holistic and coordinated support for learners.
  • Help design and improve the SPED curriculum and teaching resources.
  • Demonstrate initiative in clarifying school processes, identifying areas for improvement, and working with management to implement effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with teachers to address operational challenges and ensure smooth day-to-day functioning.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and government regulations relevant to special education.
  • Handle assigned administrative tasks, such as documentation, scheduling, and coordination.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive, and organized classroom environment.
  • Actively participate in training, meetings, and school-wide programs related to SPED and professional development.
  • Take on a leadership and management role by providing direction to the SPED team, fostering collaboration, and resolving challenges to ensure effective and supportive teamwork.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field with units in SPED Education.
  • Licensed Professional Teacher (LPT).
  • 3-5 years full-time teaching experience in Special Education, preferably with demonstrated leadership or mentoring roles.
  • Strong knowledge of special education curriculum development, instructional design, differentiated instruction, and assessment practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • A strong commitment to inclusive education and continuous professional development.
