Overview
We are building a platform that acquires, validates, interprets, stores, and continuously updates payer policy and reimbursement rules from a wide range of healthcare sources. This is not a chatbot role. The core challenge is building reliable systems that can ingest complex healthcare policy data, normalize it into structured formats, track changes over time, and maintain high accuracy and auditability.We are seeking a senior engineer with strong data engineering, backend systems, AI/LLM, and healthcare data experience.
Schedule:
- Flexible 40 hours a week with meetings during US hours
- Build scalable pipelines to ingest payer data from: payer portals, PDFs and provider manuals, policy documents, APIs and websites, and fee schedules and bulletins
- Design AI-assisted document extraction and rule interpretation workflows
- Normalize and structure payer policy data into canonical schemas
- Implement validation, QA, confidence scoring, and change detection systems
- Build and maintain production-grade backend infrastructure and data services
- Support source monitoring, automated updates, and version tracking
- Ensure data provenance, auditability, and operational reliability
- 5+ years of backend, platform, or data engineering experience
- Strong Python and SQL skills
- Experience building ETL/data pipeline systems
- Experience with APIs, scraping, document processing, and unstructured data
- Practical experience implementing LLM/RAG systems in production
- Strong understanding of AI reliability and validation approaches
- Experience designing scalable backend architectures
- Payer policies and provider manuals
- Prior authorization or reimbursement workflows
- CPT/HCPCS/ICD-10 terminology
- CMS or healthcare interoperability concepts
- OCR and document intelligence experience
- Workflow orchestration (Airflow, Dagster, Prefect, etc.)
- Elasticsearch/OpenSearch or vector search systems
- Healthcare SaaS or payer/provider platform experience
- Knowledge graph or semantic retrieval experience
- Systems-oriented and detail-focused
- Experienced with complex data normalization problems
- Comfortable combining deterministic engineering with AI-assisted workflows
- Focused on accuracy, maintainability, and operational reliability
- Able to work independently in a fast-moving environment
- Extracting structured payer rules from inconsistent documents
- Detecting policy changes across multiple payer sources
- Validating AI-extracted reimbursement and authorization rules
- Building auditable, continuously updated payer rule datasets
- Reconciling conflicting payer guidance across sources
