Job Summary: The Customs Compliance Specialist ensures that the company's import and export activities comply with all relevant customs regulations, trade laws, and international standards. This position requires a thorough understanding of customs procedures, documentation, and a keen attention to detail to facilitate efficient and compliant cross-border transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
Customs Documentation:
- Prepare and review all necessary customs documentation for import and export transactions.
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of documentation to meet customs regulations.
Tariff Classification:
- Classify products according to tariff schedules and ensure correct duty rates are applied.
- Stay updated on changes in tariff codes and inform relevant departments of any impact.
Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay abreast of changes in customs regulations and trade laws.
- Implement compliance procedures to mitigate risks and ensure adherence to legal requirements.
Customs Clearance:
- Coordinate with customs brokers to facilitate smooth and timely customs clearance.
- Resolve any customs-related issues or discrepancies that may arise during the clearance process.
Recordkeeping:
- Maintain accurate and organized records of all import and export transactions.
- Ensure documentation is readily available for audits or inquiries.
Training and Communication:
- Provide guidance and training to internal teams on customs compliance matters.
- Communicate changes in customs regulations and their potential impact on the business.
Risk Assessment:
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance issues.
- Implement measures to mitigate risks and ensure a proactive approach to compliance.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in International Business, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- Proven experience in customs compliance, import/export regulations, or a similar role.
- Strong knowledge of customs laws, tariff codes, and trade agreements.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in documentation.
- Familiarity with customs software and relevant technology platforms.
