Job Description:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Draftsman to join our engineering and fabrication team. The ideal candidate must be proficient in SolidWorks 3D modeling, knowledgeable in sheet metal fabrication processes, and familiar with key industry-standard file formats such as IGS, DXF, and NC.This role requires experience working with different sheet metal types and gauges, strong attention to detail, and the ability to perform consistently under pressure. All drafting and modeling will be done using imperial units, so familiarity with imperial dimensioning is essential.
Flexible or late-shift availability is required, especially during peak project phases.
Key Responsibilities- Create accurate 3D models and 2D fabrication drawings in SolidWorks following imperial dimensioning standards.
- Design and detail sheet metal parts and assemblies with solid knowledge of fabrication processes.
- Work with a variety of sheet metal types, including mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and galvanized steel.
- Export, manage, and prepare IGS, DXF, and NC files for CNC cutting and fabrication.
- Perform DXF nesting to optimize material usage.
- Generate and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation.
- Implement revisions based on design updates, production feedback, or quality control findings.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, production teams, and QA to ensure manufacturability.
- Meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment and manage pressures effectively.
- Work flexible or late shifts based on project and production requirements.
Qualification and requirements:
- Proficient in SolidWorks, holding a CSWA certification or any SolidWorks-related certificate.
- Knowledge of sheet metal fabrication, including experience with different metal types and gauges.
- Comfortable working with imperial dimensioning (inches,
- fractions, etc.).
- Familiarity with IGS, DXF, and NC file formats, with experience in DXF nesting tools or principles.
- Diploma, certificate, or degree in Mechanical Drafting, Engineering Technology, or related fields.
- High attention to detail with a commitment to accurate and high-quality drafting.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and meet strict deadlines.
- Willingness to work late shifts or flexible hours as needed.
Non-negotiable skills & requirements:
- Experience with SolidWorks PDM or similar CAD file management systems.
- Understanding of GD&T and applicable industry drafting standards.
- Prior experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment is an advantage.
