PRODUCT ENGINEER
Job Overview:
The Product Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, testing, and improving products within the organization. This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams including R&D, production and quality assurance to ensure that products meet customer needs, quality standards, and are manufactured efficiently.The Product Engineer plays a key role in ensuring product feasibility, functionality, and compliance with industry standards while keeping an eye on cost efficiency and manufacturability.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Product Design and Development:
- Design new products or improve existing products by conducting research and applying engineering principles.
- Create product specifications, including detailed drawings, materials, and processes, in line with the company’s quality and manufacturing standards.
- Develop prototypes for new products, collaborating with R&D teams to test and refine product concepts.
- Evaluate and select appropriate materials, components, and technologies for product development.
- Work closely with production teams to ensure product designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
Product Testing and Analysis:
- Perform product testing to ensure that prototypes and final products meet performance, safety, and regulatory standards.
- Analyze test results, identify product design issues, and recommend improvements or modifications.
- Develop testing protocols, procedures, and reports to document results and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Collaborate with the quality assurance team to develop testing and quality control procedures.
Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams:
- Work with the production team to ensure that products are being manufactured according to design specifications.
- Collaborate directly with customer to understand customer needs and product requirements.
- Provide technical support to the manufacturing team and resolve any issues that arise during the production process.
- Coordinate with suppliers to source raw materials and components needed for product development and production.
Continuous Improvement:
- Recommend design changes or enhancements based on customer feedback and performance data.
- Monitor product lifecycle and suggest improvements or cost-saving alternatives to meet evolving customer needs.
- Implement engineering changes or design modifications to improve product functionality, quality, and manufacturability.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Prepare and maintain detailed product documentation, including technical specifications, design records, test reports, and change orders.
- Create reports and presentations for internal teams and management on product development progress, challenges, and results.
Cost Management:
- Work with procurement and production teams to ensure that the product design is cost-effective and adheres to budget constraints.
- Assist in evaluating and controlling production costs related to the design and manufacturing of products.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
Experience:
- At least 2-3 years of experience in product design and development, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
- Experience with CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar design tools.
- Experience with product testing, prototyping, and material selection.
Skills:
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify design issues and develop effective solutions.
- Proficiency in CAD and simulation software for designing and testing products.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and materials.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional teams and present design concepts.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations applicable to product design and development.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks effectively.

- Strong attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality products.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to work in an office setting as well as on the production floor when necessary for testing or collaboration.
- May require standing for extended periods, using machinery, and handling tools for testing or prototypes.
