Assistant Purchasing Manager

JOB DESCRIPTION:

1. Assist in sourcing and evaluating potential suppliers, ensuring they meet quality, cost and delivery requirements
2. Process and manage purchase orders whilst maintaining accurate records and documentation
3. Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with operations teams to ensure adequate stock availability
4. Negotiate pricing and contract terms with suppliers to secure competitive rates and favourable conditions
5. Track and reconcile invoices against purchase orders and delivery receipts to ensure accuracy
6. Maintain supplier databases and performance metrics to support informed purchasing decisions
7. Communicate with internal stakeholders regarding procurement status, lead times and supply chain updates
8. Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements within the procurement function
9. Assist in resolving supplier issues and managing quality concerns
10. Support the Purchasing Manager with administrative tasks and special projects as required

JOB QUALIFICATION:

1. Bachelor's degree in business administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement or a related field
2. 2-4 years' experience in a purchasing, procurement or inventory management role
3. Strong knowledge of procurement processes, supplier management and inventory control practices
4. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Word
5. Experience with procurement systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is advantageous
6. Excellent negotiation and communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with suppliers and internal teams
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail
8. Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
9. Knowledge of manufacturing, transport or logistics operations is preferred
10. Demonstrated commitment to compliance, accuracy and integrity in procurement practices
