Junior Agriculturist

Job description:

The Junior Agriculturist will provide essential support to the Research and Development team in conducting agricultural research and development activities primarily focused on field-based studies. This role involves a significant amount of fieldwork, data collection and analysis, and assisting with the implementation of research projects.

Field Work:

• Actively participate in the planning and execution of field experiments, including site selection, plot design, and experimental setup.
• Conduct regular field surveys and data collection activities, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
• Assist with all stages of field operations, including planting schedule, fertilizer application, pest and disease control, pruning operation, etc.
• Maintain accurate and detailed field records, including observations, measurements, and any unexpected events.
• Participate in the collection of soil, plant, and other relevant samples for analysis (if required).
• Assist in the maintenance and repair of field equipment.

Data Management and Analysis:

• Enter, clean, and organize field data using appropriate software (e.g., Excel, spreadsheets).
• Assist with the analysis of field data and the preparation of simple data summaries and graphs.
• Contribute to the development of research reports and presentations with a focus on field-based findings.

Project Support:

• Assist in the preparation of research proposals and grant applications with a focus on field-based research needs.
• Assist in the procurement of field equipment and supplies.
• Maintain accurate records of field activities and expenditures.

Other Duties:

• Participate in team meetings and training sessions.
• Stay updated on current research developments and best practices in agribusiness, particularly those related to field-based studies.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field.
• Very strong interest in field-based agricultural research.
• Proven experience in field research activities, including data collection, plot maintenance, and field operations is a plus.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent data entry, analysis, and organization skills.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to work in outdoor environments and adapt to varying weather conditions.
• Experience with statistical software (e.g., Excel, basic statistical packages) is a plus.
• Experience with GPS and GIS technologies is a plus.
• Can Drive Motorcycle and 4-wheeled vehicle and have valid Driver’s License
