Occupational Therapy is concerned with the assessment and treatment of people using purposeful activity to prevent disability and develop independent function. The activities selected are related to the person's personal, social, cultural, and economic needs and will reflect the environmental factors which govern his/her life.
An Occupational Therapist is the member of the health care team who works with people with varied health problems and diagnoses, in a multitude of settings and with a primary goal of helping individuals become as independent as possible with their daily tasks in their lives.They work with any age group of varying needs, including children with autism, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder, cerebral palsy, down syndrome, learning disorder, and sensory integrative disorders.
A pediatric OT targets such skills like behavior, fine motor skills (i.e. manipulation skills, pre-writing and cutting skills), gross motor skills (i.e. mobility and coordination), sensory perceptual skills, cognitive skills, oral motor skills and activities of daily living (ADL).
Qualifications/Requirements
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy
- Licensed Occupational Therapist (Newly licensed professionals are welcome to apply!)
- Willingness to learn and receive supervision/mentorship
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Responsible, organized, and reliable
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Compassionate and client-centered approach to care
