The Systems and Controls Accountant is responsible for overseeing accounting systems, strengthening internal controls, ensuring compliance with financial policies, and improving accounting processes to support operational efficiency and accurate financial reporting.The role works closely with finance, audit, operations, and IT teams to maintain effective accounting procedures, system integrity, risk management, and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Accounting Systems Management- Manage and maintain accounting systems and financial reporting processes.
- Monitor system functionality, data accuracy, and process efficiency.
- Coordinate with IT and other departments regarding system upgrades, integrations, and enhancements.
- Assist in the implementation and improvement of ERP and accounting software systems.
- Ensure proper user access controls and system security within accounting platforms.
- Develop, implement, and monitor internal control policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular reviews of financial processes to identify risks and control weaknesses.
- Recommend corrective actions and process improvements to strengthen controls.
- Assist in preparing documentation for internal and external audits.
- Analyze accounting workflows and identify opportunities for automation and process enhancement.
- Standardize accounting procedures to improve accuracy and operational efficiency.
- Monitor process compliance across departments and business units.
- Lead initiatives related to continuous improvement in accounting operations.
- Prepare reports and recommendations for management regarding system and process improvements.
- Ensure accurate and timely preparation of financial and management reports.
- Review accounting transactions and reconciliations for completeness and accuracy.
- Assist management in analyzing financial data and operational performance.
- Ensure consistency of financial information generated from accounting systems.
Qualifications/Requirements
Job Qualifications – Systems and Controls Accountant:
Education & Licensing- Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or related field.
- Must be a Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA).
- At least five (5) years of accounting experience.
- At least three (3) years of supervisory or management experience.
- Experience in accounting systems, internal controls, compliance, or financial process management is highly preferred.
- Background in ERP systems and financial reporting processes is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, internal controls, and compliance procedures.
- Proficient in accounting systems, ERP software, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Knowledgeable in audit procedures, risk management, and process improvement.
