This job description outlines the roles and responsibilities for the position of DESIGN MANAGER
Develop and implement comprehensive design strategies, standards, and
efficient workflows for the design team.
Lead coordination efforts with clients, architects, engineers (internal and
external), and project managers to clearly define project design objectives,scopes, and specifications.
Manage and critically review all project designs and deliverables, ensuring
strict adherence to relevant construction codes, industry standards, and
agreed-upon client requirements.
Supervise, mentor, and provide technical guidance to the design team,fostering a collaborative environment focused on producing high-quality and
innovative design solutions.
Evaluate, review, and provide final approval for design modifications and
revisions, ensuring they are technically sound and aligned with project goals.
Oversee the effective integration of sustainable design principles and ensure
robust health and safety considerations are embedded throughout all design
activities and deliverables.
Act as the primary liaison with procurement, construction teams, and the
QA/QC department to ensure seamless alignment of designs with
constructability, procurement strategies, and operational requirements.
Monitor and manage design budgets and project timelines effectively,proactively addressing potential risks to ensure cost efficiency and on-time
delivery of design packages.
Ensure that all designs meticulously adhere to all applicable local and
international building codes, regulations, and permitting requirements.
Ensure that all designs inherently incorporate safety measures and
considerations that fully comply with occupational health and safety regulations,aiming to minimize risks during construction and operation.
Collaborate closely with Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) teams to
proactively identify and effectively mitigate potential hazards and risks during
the design phase.
Champion and promote a strong safety-first culture within the design process
by actively adopting best practices, such as thorough hazard identification and
comprehensive risk assessments.
Lead and conduct regular safety audits of design documents and processes to
rigorously ensure ongoing compliance with relevant safety standards and
regulations.
Qualifications/Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Tunnel Engineering, GeotechnicalEngineering, or a related field.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent (preferred).
NEBOSH International General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety
or equivalent (highly desirable).
Certification in Tunnel Engineering or related fields (e.g., M.Eng in TunnelEngineering).
Expertise in tunnel excavation methods such as TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine), NATM (New Austrian Tunneling Method), and cut-and-cover techniques.
Understanding of soil mechanics, geology, and groundwater control techniques
related to tunnel construction.
Knowledge of tunnel lining systems, rock support systems, and structuralintegrity of tunnel designs.
Familiarity with QA/QC procedures for tunneling, including material testing, inspection protocols, and certification requirements.
Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, Primavera P6)
for monitoring and reporting on project timelines and budgets.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and responsibilities efficiently while ensuring
high-quality results.
