The Role
We’re hiring a Senior Tax & Compliance Accountant based in the Philippines to join our Melbourne-led team. This is a key leadership role overseeing Australian compliance work — including tax returns, BAS/IAS, reconciliations, statutory lodgements, FBT, tax planning and team supervision.
You’ll work with Xero-powered clients across eCommerce, hospitality, professional services, and digital & creative industries. You’ll also guide junior accountants, improve processes, and play an integral part in delivering confident results to our Australian clients.
What You’ll Do Day-to-Day- Preparing financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships and sole traders
- Preparing income tax returns for companies, trusts, and partnerships
- Preparing complex individual tax returns (managed funds, ESS, capital gains tax, rental properties, cryptocurrency)
- Reconciling balance sheet and profit and loss accounts, making corrections where necessary
- Reconciling ATO balance sheet items (i.e., GST, PAYGW, income tax)
- Maintaining fixed asset register, including acquisition and disposal of fixed assets
- Identifying taxation issues such as Division 7A and FBT
- Preparing monthly/quarterly business and instalment activity statements (BAS/IAS), identifying and correcting GST and payroll discrepancies
- Preparing fuel tax credits calculations to be included as part of the business activity statement
- Preparing and lodging basic monthly state payroll tax for various jurisdictions
- Preparing and lodging basic annual state payroll tax reconciliations for various jurisdictions
- Preparing year-end tax planning files for companies, trusts, and partnerships
- Preparing FBT calculations and FBT Returns
- Provide mentoring and training to Accountants, with assistance from the Compliance Team Manager and Client Managers
- Reviewing and overseeing work prepared by Accountants to detect discrepancies and ensure deadlines are met
- Working alongside the client services team and client managers to support clients with queries
- Collaborating with our bookkeeping team to ensure the files provided to the compliance team enhances and streamlines our processes.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in Australian tax and compliance (in an accounting firm setting)
- Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy, Commerce, or Business (Accounting major)
- Strong understanding of Australian tax law and compliance frameworks, FBT, Div7A, Trust rules
- Xero Certified and confident using Xero Tax and XPM
- Strong attention to detail and ability to detect discrepancies across accounts
- Analytical thinker with advanced reconciliation and problem-solving skills
- High level of written and spoken English
- Highly organised with the ability to manage priorities and deadlines across multiple clients
- Confident reviewing and supervising junior team workflows
- Strong business acumen and the ability to liaise effectively with Australian client managers
- Bonus: experience in BPO, outsourcing, or serving Australian clients remotely. Experience and confidence with SMSFs also highly valuable. Software experience with Karbon, Koinly
