Installation:
Install new air conditioning and refrigeration units, including split systems, packaged units, ducted systems, and other HVACR equipment, according to blueprints, specifications, and manufacturer guidelines.
Connect systems to fuel and water supply lines, air ducts, and other necessary components.
Perform electrical wiring and connect control systems.
Measure and lay out reference points for installation.
Cut, thread, and bend piping to specifications, including welding, soldering, or brazing connections.
Maintenance and Repair:
Conduct routine preventive maintenance on AC systems, which includes inspecting, cleaning, adjusting, and lubricating components (e.g., coils, filters, motors, compressors, condensers, fans, belts, bearings).
Diagnose and troubleshoot malfunctions in AC and refrigeration systems, identifying the root cause of issues (mechanical, electrical, or refrigerant-related).
Perform repairs on malfunctioning equipment, including replacing worn or defective parts such as transformers, thermostats, compressors, and evaporators.
Check refrigerant levels and perform proper refrigerant recovery, recycling, and charging according to environmental regulations.
Test individual components and entire systems for proper installation and operation, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
Perform emergency repairs promptly and efficiently, often outside regular business hours.
Clean and adjust vents, and ductwork to improve air quality and optimize efficiency.
Ensure condensation drain lines are free of debris and draining properly.
Documentation and Communication:
Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including daily logs, maintenance history, parts used, and issues diagnosed.
Communicate effectively with customers, explaining complex technical issues in clear, non-technical terms, relaying costs, and offering recommendations for system improvements or alternative solutions.
Draft quotes and reports for repairs and installations.
Order and collect necessary parts upon customer approval.

Communicate with supervisors regarding job challenges and progress.

Safety and Compliance: Ensure compliance with appliance standards and Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Act regulations.

Adhere to service standards, work instructions, and customer requirements.
Handle refrigerants and other chemicals safely, utilizing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Follow proper lifting techniques and safety protocols when working in cramped spaces, at heights, or in extreme temperatures.

Inspect AC units for safety hazards.

Other Duties: Maintain service vehicles, tools, and equipment.

Participate in technical training and professional development to stay updated on new technologies and industry best practices (e.g., smart thermostats, VRF systems, energy-efficient solutions).
Provide technical direction and on-the-job training to junior technicians or apprentices.

Assist in reviewing blueprints and construction plans for HVAC systems.

Qualifications/Requirements

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Completion of a technical vocational course in air conditioning servicing or a related field (e.g., TESDA NC II Certificate in HVAC).
Apprenticeship program completion in HVACR is highly desirable.

Relevant certifications (e.g., EPA certification for refrigerant handling where applicable).

Experience: At least 1-3 years of proven experience as an AC Technician or HVAC Technician.

Experience with a variety of HVAC systems (residential, commercial, industrial).
Technical Skills:
Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, components (motors, compressors, condensers, evaporators), and refrigeration principles.
Proficiency in diagnosing electrical and mechanical issues in HVAC systems.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
Competency in using a variety of hand and power tools applicable to the trade (e.g., multimeters, pressure gauges, leak detectors).
Basic understanding of thermodynamics, airflow and pressure, and electrical systems.

Familiarity with energy management systems (e.g., Johnson Metasys program) and computer literacy for work order systems (CMMS).

Soft Skills: Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with customers and team members.
Attention to detail and precision in work.
Good time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Adaptability to changing situations and new technologies.
Customer service-oriented approach.
Physical agility, dexterity, and the ability to lift heavy equipment (up to 50 pounds), climb ladders, and work in confined spaces or extreme temperatures.

Willingness to work after hours, weekends, and holidays for emergency calls.
