Medical Coder

Job Description

The ideal candidate is a certified coder with strong technical expertise and people management skills, passionate about documentation accuracy and compliance.

• Supervise day-to-day operations of the inpatient medical coding team
• Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant coding using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRG, and CPT standards
• Review and audit coded records for completeness and compliance
• Provide guidance on complex coding cases and DRG validation
• Coach and mentor coders through training sessions and one-on-one development
• Collaborate with CDI, billing, and compliance teams to resolve discrepancies
• Track team KPIs, productivity, and quality metrics
• Prepare and present audit findings and performance reports to management
• Manage workflow allocation, capacity planning, and leave management
• Lead team bonding, recognition, and process improvement initiatives

Qualifications:

• Minimum 4 years of experience in medical coding, preferably in inpatient settings
• At least 12 years of team leadership or supervisory experience
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent
• Strong knowledge of DRG validation, ICD-10, CPT, and official coding guidelines
• Experience in performance monitoring, auditing, and coaching
• Excellent communication, team management, and reporting skills
