Job Description:
The Credit Officer is responsible for ensuring quality assessment and underwriting of loan applications, and to ensure the overall good quality of the loan portfolio. This role provides support, direction, and guidance on how loan policies and methodology should be applied for the assessment and underwriting of loans.This role might supervise a team of credit analysts. The role also works closely with compliance department to verify that lending policies and practices are within local regulation.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Monitor the correct use of the organization’s lending methodology.
- Supervise/ provide guidance to those loans assessed by assigned credit analysts
- If necessary, lead the credit committee as per the approval levels established in the lending policies
- Evaluate the lending process and policies on an ongoing basis to recommend improvements for credit underwriting, administration, and recovery
- Analyze the composition of the loan portfolio to measure the results and make recommendations to achieve business goals
- Carry out the planning of the monthly activities of assigned credit analysts according the established goals for the year
- Conduct weekly and monthly meetings with relevant staff of assigned branches for the following purposes:
- Review credit files of loans already granted
- Validate information in each file
- Organize/propose random visits clients to validate information (i.e. about 25% of clients approved during the month should be visited)
- Provide feedback to the branch commercial team and other related teams on the evolution of the portfolio quality and the quality of the loans originated by the branch(es)
- Prepare loan productivity reports for the commercial area/branch managers
Secondary Function:
Act as Backup for Business Manager. Access of Credit Officer will be activated if the primary (Business Manager) is offsite/not available. System access as approver for account registration, corporate registration, manage customer, and agent registration.Branch operation cash management approver. Monitors loan application status and loan accounts of the clients.
Minimum Skills/Qualifications- Graduate of a 4-year degree course, preferably in business-related disciplines (Finance / Management/ Economics, etc.)
- Minimum of 5 years of successful working experience in microfinance or banking, 3 of those years in credit analyst role, minimum 2 years of team supervision experience
- Familiarity with the community of the branch (main markets, target segment, local network and connections, etc.).
- Willing to do field work (95% of the time).
