Septic Tank Desludging Operations:

• Assist in locating septic tank access points at client properties.
• Help set up suction hoses and connect them securely to the vacuum truck.
• Operate and monitor the suction process under the driver’s supervision.
• Ensure that septic waste is completely and efficiently removed from tanks.
• Properly close and secure septic tank covers after desludging.

Equipment Handling & Maintenance:

• Clean and store suction hoses, fittings, and related equipment after each operation.
• Perform routine checks on hoses and other equipment for leaks or damage.
• Assist in minor maintenance and troubleshooting of VTU equipment as needed.
• Keep the vacuum truck’s storage compartments clean and organized.

Site Cleanliness & Customer Service:

• Ensure that desludging operations do not leave spills or contamination at work sites.
• Clean up any spills immediately and report any major incidents to the supervisor.
• Handle customer inquiries politely and assist in addressing their concerns.
• Ensure that work areas are left clean and undisturbed after desludging.

Health, Safety, and Environmental Compliance:

• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, boots, and masks.
• Follow safety protocols for handling sewage and hazardous waste.
• Use proper procedures for spill containment and waste disposal.
• Report any health, safety, or environmental issues to the supervisor immediately.
• Follow traffic and road safety regulations when assisting the VTU driver.

Support for Waste Disposal & Facility Operations:

• Assist in transporting and unloading septage waste at the designated treatment facility.
• Follow proper waste disposal protocols to prevent contamination.
• Help with basic cleaning and upkeep of the vacuum truck.

Qualifications/Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid PDL (Professional Driver's License – DL Code B, B1, B2, C, D, CE) with a clean driving record plus preferably NC3 in Driving.
• Previous 3 years’ experience operating vacuum trucks or similar heavy equipment is preferred.
• Knowledge of safety regulations related to waste management and vehicle operation.
• Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects (depending on job requirements).
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
• Basic mechanical knowledge for minor truck maintenance.
