Legal Manager (Philippines)

Key Responsibilities:

• Handle general legal affairs for the company’s business operations in the Philippines, especially in OLP (online lending platform), payment, and anti-money laundering compliance.
• Draft, review, and negotiate business contracts, including with local partners, vendors, service providers, etc.
• Provide legal support for new business models or market expansion strategies, ensuring local compliance with BSP, SEC, AMLC and other regulators.
• Participate in internal risk control and legal training; advise on potential legal risks in commercial activities.
• Handle external law firm liaison, litigation coordination, and other dispute resolution processes.
• Monitor updates in local laws, regulations, and enforcement trends related to fintech, e-commerce, and data privacy.
• Provide legal support for license application, maintenance, and other compliance matters.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree or above in Law; passed Philippine Bar Examination.
• 3-5 years of legal experience in any of the following:
• Legal role in a Fintech / OLP / Payment company
• In-house legal counsel in e-commerce / internet / financial service companies
• Law firms with clients from fintech or online lending industries
• Familiar with local regulations and licensing for lending, anti-money laundering, consumer finance, or e-commerce.
• Strong ability in legal risk identification, analysis, and problem-solving.
• Excellent communication and coordination skills.
• Fluent in English; Chinese speaking is a plus.

Preferred Background:

• Work experience with companies like Cashalo, Tala, BillEase, ShopeePay, GCash, PayMaya, or law firms serving these types of clients.
• Candidates who have participated in BSP licensing, AMLC audits, or data privacy compliance will be a strong plus.
