What are the Roles and Responsibilities?
The Technical Engineer provides back-end technical support to the Plant Manager through research, analysis, and reporting to drive operational efficiency, process improvement, and cost management at the distillery plant. The role focuses on data-driven decision-making, technical problem-solving, and financial tracking to enhance production performance, sustainability, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:

Technical Support to Plant Manager: Provide technical insights and recommendations to assist the Plant Manager in operational decision-making.

Prepare technical reports, data analyses, and operational updates to support plant performance reviews and strategic planning.

Assist in planning and managing projects related to process improvements, capacity expansions, and plant upgrades.

Research and Data Analysis: Conduct research on new technologies, equipment, and processes to improve plant operations and production efficiency.

Analyze production data, including yields, energy consumption, and material usage, to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Develop predictive models to optimize the distillation process and propose solutions for energy and cost reduction.
Process Evaluation and Improvement:
Assist the Plant Manager by conducting regular evaluations of the distillation, fermentation, and other production processes, providing insights and recommendations for maintaining optimal performance.
Analyze process data and present findings to the Plant Manager, proposing modifications to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance product quality in line with operational goals.
Work closely with the Plant Manager to identify key areas for improvement and assist in developing and implementing best practices across operations to ensure smooth and efficient workflows.
Provide the Plant Manager with detailed reports on process performance, highlighting areas of concern and suggesting data-driven solutions for continuous improvement.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving:
Assist the Plant Manager by providing technical support during troubleshooting of process issues, equipment malfunctions, and operational inefficiencies, ensuring timely resolutions.
Work closely with the Plant Manager to lead root cause analysis for operational disruptions, providing detailed reports and recommendations to guide corrective actions and restore production.
Coordinate with the Plant Manager and the maintenance team to ensure timely and effective repairs of equipment, offering technical insights to streamline the repair process and prevent future issues.
Budget Planning and Cost Management:
Assist the Plant Manager in preparing the technical budget, focusing on CAPEX and OPEX for equipment upgrades, process improvements, and maintenance.
Monitor and track technical project expenditures, ensuring alignment with the budget and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
Provide detailed cost analyses for proposed process changes, equipment purchases, and repairs, highlighting financial impacts.
Capital Projects Feasibility and Budgeting:
Assist the Plant Manager in conducting feasibility studies and preparing cost-benefit analyses for new capital projects, including equipment installations and process optimizations.
Support the Plant Manager in managing the technical aspects of capital project budgets, offering additional financial oversight and ensuring projects stay on track throughout their lifecycle.
Vendor and Procurement Support:
Evaluate and recommend vendors for technical equipment and services, by collaborating with Procurement in negotiating pricing and terms for technical purchases, ensuring value for money without compromising quality.
Assist in preparing technical specifications for procurement contracts.
Technical Reporting:
Prepare detailed reports on key performance indicators (KPIs), including production output, resource utilization, and equipment performance.
Present research findings, process improvement suggestions, and financial reports to the Plant Manager and senior management.

Ensure all technical data, reports, and documentation are maintained and up to date for audit and regulatory purposes.

Continuous Improvement Initiatives: Lead or support continuous improvement projects focused on cost reduction, efficiency gains, and sustainability.

Propose and implement energy-saving initiatives, waste reduction strategies, and process automation to enhance operational performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to generate ideas for improvement in line with plant goals.
General Administrative Functions:

Provide general administrative support to the Plant Manager, including organizing meetings, preparing reports, managing correspondence, and handling day-to-day administrative tasks to ensure smooth plant operations.

Qualifications/Requirements

What are the Qualifications?

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Licensure as a professional engineer is preferred.

Experience:

  • Experience in a technical or research role within a distillery, chemical, or process manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Strong background in data analysis, research, technical reporting, and process optimization.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in data analysis software and knowledge of distillation and fermentation processes.
  • Familiarity with process control systems, industry standards for environmental compliance, safety, and quality control.
  • Experience in preparing technical and financial reports for process optimization and project planning.

Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect, interpret, and present technical data.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with the Plant Manager and cross-functional teams.
  • Financial acumen with experience in budget planning, cost control, and project feasibility analysis.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and tasks, ensuring timely delivery of technical solutions and reports.

Certifications:

  • Professional Engineering License (preferred).
  • Certification in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies is a plus.
