US Mortgage Underwriter (WFH | Night Shift)

Job Description

We are looking for an experienced US Mortgage Underwriter to manage the end‑to‑end underwriting process for residential mortgage loans, with primary exposure to Conventional loans, Closed‑End Second Mortgages, and VA IRRRL. The role requires strong analytical skills, sound underwriting judgment, and in‑depth knowledge of investor guidelines.

• Manage end‑to‑end underwriting for Conventional, Closed‑End Second, and VA IRRRL loans
• Analyze and accurately calculate various income types, including:
• Salaried / W‑2 income
• Self‑Employed income
• Rental and other income sources
• Review complete loan documents and issue approval or denial decisions
• Conduct detailed credit report analysis, including trade lines, derogatory accounts, public records, and credit reconciliation
• Calculate HTI / DTI ratios to assess borrower eligibility
• Review collateral and property valuations to identify physical and market risks
• Verify borrower assets, including bank statements, retirement accounts, mutual funds, and investments
• Apply expertise in the 4 C’s of Underwriting: Credit, Capacity, Collateral, and Capital
• Review initial and resubmitted loan files and ensure completion within set SLAs
• Maintain high quality standards and compliance with investor and client guidelines

• At least 5 years of experience as a US Mortgage Underwriter
• Strong knowledge of FNMA (Fannie Mae) and FHLMC (Freddie Mac) investor guidelines
• Experience using AllRegs or similar guideline platforms
• Solid understanding of underwriting credit risk and decisioning
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Detail‑oriented, self‑motivated, and able to work independently in a fast‑paced environment
