Auto Electrician

Job Summary:

An Auto Electrician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the electrical and electronic systems of vehicles. This includes wiring, lighting, ignition systems, batteries, air conditioning, and more. The role requires a thorough understanding of automotive electrical systems, diagnostic tools, and safety protocols to ensure all repairs and installations are completed to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Electrical Diagnostics & Troubleshooting:

• Use diagnostic tools to identify electrical issues in vehicles, including problems with wiring, battery, alternators, and other electrical components.
• Inspect electrical systems, such as lighting, heating, and cooling, to diagnose faults or performance issues.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions, ensuring vehicles are roadworthy and meet safety regulations.

1. Repairs & Replacements:

• Replace faulty electrical parts, such as fuses, wiring, alternators, batteries, and sensors.
• Repair or replace electrical wiring and components that are damaged or worn.
• Conduct repairs to air conditioning systems, lighting systems, and other electrical components as required.

1. Installation of Electrical Systems:

• Install electrical accessories, such as alarms, audio systems, GPS, lighting, and other aftermarket products.
• Ensure all installations comply with manufacturer specifications and safety standards.

1. Preventative Maintenance:

• Perform routine maintenance on electrical components of vehicles to prevent breakdowns or failures.
• Check and maintain battery health, alternators, wiring, and other electrical systems as part of scheduled service visits.

1. Customer Interaction:

• Discuss electrical issues with customers to understand symptoms, provide solutions, and offer expert advice on repairs or upgrades.
• Provide customers with estimated costs and timeframes for repairs and ensure clear communication throughout the process.

1. Vehicle Testing:

• Test repaired or replaced electrical systems to verify proper functioning.
• Conduct road tests when necessary to confirm the accuracy of repairs.

1. Documentation:

• Maintain accurate records of all repairs, parts used, and labor hours for each vehicle serviced.
• Complete service reports and job sheets as required by management.

1. Compliance & Safety:

• Follow safety guidelines, including wearing appropriate PPE, and adhere to all health and safety regulations.
• Ensure all repairs and installations meet local vehicle regulatory requirements and industry standards.

1. Continuous Learning & Development:

• Stay updated on the latest automotive electrical technologies and techniques through training and self-study.
• Learn about new vehicle models, electrical systems, and diagnostic tools to improve service quality.

Qualifications:

• Education:
• Vocational training in automotive electrical systems or equivalent.
• Apprenticeship or formal qualification as an Auto Electrician is preferred.
• Experience:
• Proven experience working as an Auto Electrician or similar role in the automotive industry.
• Familiarity with vehicle electrical systems and diagnostic tools.
• Skills:
• Strong diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work with electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
• Excellent manual dexterity and attention to detail.
• Good communication skills to explain technical issues to customers.
